Two different diseases in two adolescent girls with the same clinic: Allergic bronchopulmonary aspergillosis.

Allergic bronchopulmonary aspergillosis (ABPA) is a complex hypersensitivity reaction observed in asthma as well as cystic fibrosis (CF) patients due to the colonization of the airways by Aspergillus fumigatus. While ABPA is most commonly observed in CF patients (2-9%), it is seen at a rate of 1-2% in patients diagnosed with asthma. ABPA is mostly seen in steroid dependent adult asthma patients and has rarely been reported in pediatric asthma patients.

Relationship between cultural intelligence and career and work adaptability in nursing students.

Objectives: To investigate the relationship between cultural intelligence and career and work adaptability among nursing students.

Methods: The descriptive, cross-sectional study was conducted at Kilis 7 Aralık University Nursing Department in Turkey from April to May 2019, and comprised nursing students of either gender. Data was gathered using Cultural Intelligence Scale and Career and Work Adaptability Questionnaire.

The Effects of Smoking in Patients in the Intensive Care Unit During the COVID-19 Pandemic.

Objectives: In this study, we aimed to see the effects of smoking prevalence, the length of stay regarding the usage of cigarettes, and the effects on the mortality of COVID-19 in our Intensive Care Unit (ICU).

Methods: This is a retrospective single-centered study that was done in the ICU on patients with COVID-19 between 16th of March and 16 of May in 2020. The demographic data, comorbidity status, the units they were accepted from, clinical symptoms, respiratory support, prevalence of smoking, length of stay in the ICU, and mortalities of the patients were recorded.

This study aimed to determine the correlation between cultural competence, xenophobia, and attitudes to brain drain in nursing students. Individuals with high levels of intercultural competence have more successful social and emotional interactions with people from various cultural backgrounds. A cross-sectional and correlational design was used.

Comparing the Diagnostic Performance of HFA-PEFF and H2FPEF Scoring Systems in Heart Failure with Preserved Ejection Fraction Patients: Insights from the APOLLON Registry.

Background: Heart failure with preserved ejection fraction is a complex and heterogeneous clinical syndrome, poses significant diagnostic challenges. The HFA-PEFF [Heart Failure Association of ESC diagnostic algorithm, P (Pretest Assessment), E  (Echocardiographic and Natriuretic Peptide score), F1 (Functional testing in Case of Uncertainty), F2 (Final Aetiology)] and H2FPEF [Heavy (BMI>30 kg/m2), Hypertensive (use of ≥2 antihypertensive medications), atrial Fibrillation (paroxysmal or persistent), Pulmonary hypertension (Doppler Echocardiographic estimated Pulmonary Artery Systolic Pressure >35 mm Hg), Elderly (age >60 years), Filling pressure (Doppler Echocardiographic E/e' >9)] scoring systems were developed to aid in diagnosing heart failure with preserved ejection fraction. This study aimed to assess the concordance and clinical accuracy of these scoring systems in the 'A comPrehensive, ObservationaL registry of heart faiLure with mildly reduced and preserved ejection fractiON' cohort.

Influence of cardiac biomarkers on predicting significant coronary artery disease in hypertrophic cardiomyopathy patients.

Background: In this study, our aim was to investigate the role of cardiac biomarkers in predicting the presence of significant coronary artery disease in hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) patients.

Methods: The study population was composed of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy patients who underwent coronary angiography at a single center between June 2021 and March 2023, and whose cardiac biomarkers were evaluated before the procedure. HCM patients were screened retrospectively.

Systemic Immune-Inflammatory Index Is Associated with Residual SYNTAX Score in Patients with ST-Segment Elevation Myocardial Infarction.

Background: Systemic immune-inflammatory index (platelet count × neutrophil-lymphocyte ratio) is a new marker that predicts adverse clinical outcomes in coronary artery diseases. Our aim was to investigate the relationship between the systemic immune-inflammatory index and residual SYNTAX score in patients with ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction undergoing primary percutaneous coronary intervention.

Methods: In this retrospective study, 518 consecutive patients who underwent primary percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) with the diagnosis of ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction were analyzed.

Successful management of 30 kg Gigantic para-testicular liposarcoma.

We report the successful management of a paratesticular liposarcoma, which, to the best of our knowledge, is the largest known of its type. A 62-year-old male presented with a painless, gradually progressive left testicular "giant" mass measuring 60 × 40 cm, weighing 30 kg and growing over a period of three 3 years. Additionally, a 5 × 5 cm trophic ulcer could be seen at the bottom of the scrotum.

Favipiravir Experience in COVID-19 Patients at a Tertiary Center Intensive Care Unit.

Objectives: The aim of this study was to compare intensive care unit (ICU) and overall hospital mortality in patients treated with favipiravir and lopinavir-ritonavir for COVID-19.

Methods: Data were collected retrospectively between March 10 and May 10, 2020, from patients' records admitted to ICU due to COVID-19. Laboratory data, clinical characteristics, ICU and hospital mortality, ICU and hospital length of stay were compared in patients treated with favipiravir and lopinavir-ritonavir.

FDG PET/CT signs of proven pulmonary hydatid cyst: is there any clue?

Purpose: Pulmonary hydatid cyst (PHC) can imitate many diseases. Sometimes, positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT) is performed in terms of malignancy exclusion for complicated cysts. Although some specific findings (doughnut sign) have been identified in hydatid cyst of the liver, there is no specific sign described for PHC.

A Patient with a Novel Variant Exhibiting Liver Involvement as a New Clinical Feature and Review of the Literature.

Pontocerebellar hypoplasia (PCH) is a heterogeneous neurodevelopmental disorder that is characterized by decreased brainstem and cerebellum volume. Pontocerebellar hypoplasia type 6 (PCH6) is a mitochondrial disease associated with autosomal recessive inheritance that results from mutations in the gene. In this case report, we describe a new clinical presentation with a novel pathogenic variant.

Effectiveness of inactivated SARS-CoV-2 vaccine (CoronaVac) on intensive care unit survival.

This study compared the course of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) in vaccinated and unvaccinated patients admitted to an intensive care unit (ICU) and evaluated the effect of vaccination with CoronaVac on admission to ICU. Patients admitted to ICU due to COVID-19 between 1 April 2021 and 15 May 2021 were enrolled to the study. Clinical, laboratory, radiological parameters, hospital and ICU mortality were compared between vaccinated patients and eligible but unvaccinated patients.

Emergency pulmonary resection in massive hemoptysis: analysis of 39 patients.

Introduction: The mortality of massive hemoptysis is high, and it is important to make quick decisions. Emergency pulmonary resection continues to be a mandatory option when conservative methods cannot prevent massive hemoptysis, as it is life-threatening.

A Qualitative Study of the Experiences of Complementary and Alternative Medicine of Patients With IBS-C.

The aim of this study was to examine the complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) experiences of patients with constipation irritable bowel syndrome (IBS-C). This qualitative study consisted of a total of 30 patients, who were admitted to a university hospital in Turkey. Data were collected using a descriptive questionnaire and a semistructured interview.

Effect of organizational silence on the job satisfaction and performance levels of nurses.

Design And Method: This is a descriptive and cross-sectional study conducted with 671 nurses at 4 hospitals in a province of Turkey. The data were collected using a questionnaire form, the Organizational Silence Scale, the Performance Scale, and the Minnesota Satisfaction Questionnaire.

Findings: In this study, it was determined that staying silent affected the job satisfaction and performance of nurses.

Introduction: Metabolic syndrome has been recognized as a predictor of cardiovascular diseases. Epicardial fat tissue (EFT) thickness has recently been shown to be a predictor of cardiovascular diseases in metabolic syndrome patients. Endocan is a novel molecule which is considered to be an early marker of endothelial dysfunction.

Parent participation in early intervention/early childhood hearing impairment program.

Background: It is a well-known fact that the parents play a key role in the early intervention program for their deaf and hard of hearing children.

Cardiac hemangioma in a difficult anatomical location presented with ventricular tachycardia. A rare case report.

Cardiac hemangioma is a benign and rare primary tumor of the heart. Though it has benign histopathological features, its complications can be life-threatening. We report a young adult male without any prior structural heart disease or medical history who presented with ventricular tachyarrhythmia.

Malnutrition provides important long-term prognostic information in patients undergoing endovascular abdominal aortic aneurysm repair.

Objectives: Malnutrition has been shown to be associated with survival in a variety of diseases. Our aim is to evaluate the prognostic value of objective nutritional indexes indicating malnutrition, in patients underwent endovascular aortic replacement.

Methods: We retrospectively evaluated 149 consecutive patients who underwent technically successful endovascular aortic replacement operation between October 2010 and August 2019.

Perceived stress level is associated with coronary artery disease severity in patients with ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction.

Objective: Stress is known to be a significant risk factor for coronary atherosclerosis and adverse cardiovascular events; however, the stress-related coronary atherosclerotic burden has not yet been investigated. The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between the Perceived Stress Scale (PSS) and the SYNTAX scores in patients with ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI).

Methods: A total of 440 patients with STEMI were prospectively enrolled and divided into 2 groups according to the PSS score with a ROC curve analysis cut-off value of 17.
