Milia-like idiopathic calcinosis cutis (MICC) and subepidermal calcified nodule (SCN) are described as different entities under the heading of idiopathic calcinosis cutis. Although there are some clinical differences, they share many features. Whereas MICC lesions are located mostly on the extremities and rarely on the face, SCN manifests itself mostly on the face, rarely on the extremities.

Endometriosis is defined as the presence of endometrial tissue outside the uterine cavity. This study evaluates the cytomorphologic features of endometriosis in various cytologic specimen types [fine-needle aspiration (FNA), effusion cytology (EF), touch imprint (ToP), and cervical smear (PAP)], and assesses the key elements helpful in recognizing this lesion. A total of 18 cases (8 FNA, 4 EF, 5 ToP, and 1 PAP) of cytologically diagnosed and histologically/clinically confirmed endometriosis diagnosed between 1988 and 2006 comprises the material for this study.

Background/aims: It was speculated that there was a relationship between the intensity of tissue eosinophilic infiltration in colonic malignancies and their prognosis. This retrospective study aimed to investigate the frequency and intensity of tissue eosinophilia in various colonic neoplasms, including serrated adenomas.

Methods: We evaluated 448 colonic neoplasms to determine eosinophilic infiltration: 96 hyperplastic polyps, 50 serrated adenomas, 19 flat adenomas, 154 tubular adenomas, 71 tubulovillous adenomas, 13 villous adenomas and 45 adenocarcinomas.

Primary involvement of the middle ear and mastoid mucosa by malignant melanoma (MM) has been rarely reported. We report an 81-year-old Caucasian woman presenting with otalgia, left-sided aural fullness, and hearing loss. Objectives/hypothesis: Recent studies have established a strong relationship between the development of myringosclerosis and reactive oxygen species (ROS). The aims of the present study were to directly detect ROS in the tympanic membrane and middle ear mucosa of rats by measuring luminol amplified chemiluminescence, to evaluate the changes in the levels of ROS after treatment with vitamin E, and to examine the possible changes in the tympanic membranes otomicroscopically and histologically.

Objectives: To investigate experimentally the possible histopathological effects of ethyl 2-cyanoacrylate glue when used as a tissue adhesive in cardiovascular and thoracic surgery.

Methods: Sprague-Dawley rats were used for this study. For histopathological investigation, a study group of 144 rats in which intentionally produced lesions in myocardium (n=36), ascending aorta (n=36), lung (n=36) and abdominal aorta (n=36) were closed by using ethyl 2-cyanoacrylate was compared with the control group (n=144) in which the same lesions were closed by using sutures.
