Vitamin A derivatives have inhibitory effects on cartilage tissue, such as decreasing chondrocyte proliferation and collagen synthesis, and increasing the loss of glycosaminoglycans and proteoglycans. Therefore, isotretinoin (a vitamin A derivative) may play a role in the pathogenesis of cartilage-related diseases like osteoarthritis by affecting the balance of cartilage tissue. The aim of this study was to evaluate the distal femoral cartilage thickness in acne patients under the systemic isotretinoin therapy and to determine whether it constitutes a risk factor for the development of osteoarthritis.

Psoriasis might bring about an increased risk of liver diseases like nonalcoholic fatty liver disease and fibrosis. The impact of methotrexate on liver function is still a cause for concern, because of the studies suggesting an increased risk of liver damage and others finding no association. The focus of this study was the liver functions in psoriatic patients investigating the impact of long-term use of methotrexate on liver in psoriasis.

Article Synopsis
  • This study investigates the prevalence of Fibromyalgia Syndrome (FMS) symptoms in patients with Notalgia Paresthetica (NP) and how it affects their quality of life.
  • Results showed a higher frequency of FMS in NP patients (34.6%) compared to matched controls (7.7%), along with significant differences in pain and symptom severity scores.
  • The findings suggest that NP patients should be screened for FMS, as its presence can significantly impact their quality of life and treatment outcomes.

We describe 7 patients with various dermatologic reactions following COVID-19 vaccination, including herpes zoster (HZ) infection, herpes zoster ophthalmicus (HZO), herpes labialis, and urticaria. Although the reactions described here may be related to COVID-19 vaccination, continued vaccination is recommended, as it is the most effective way to protect against serious COVID-19 infection.

Article Synopsis
  • Seborrheic dermatitis (SD) and osteoarthritis share common underlying factors, such as metabolic syndrome and systemic inflammation, which may link the two conditions.
  • A study involving 60 patients with SD and 60 matched controls found that the distal femoral cartilage thickness (FCT) was significantly greater in SD patients, especially those with moderate disease severity.
  • The results suggest that increased FCT could be an early sign of osteoarthritis in SD patients, but more research with older participants is needed to confirm these findings.

Objectives: Despite extensive research, there is currently no specific biomarker that reliably and universally indicates treatment response in psoriasis. Multiple studies have evaluated systemic inflammation markers, including neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR), platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio (PLR), monocyte-to-lymphocyte ratio (MLR), systemic immune-inflammation index (SII), and systemic immune response index (SIRI) in psoriasis patients. However, there are limited studies investigating changes in these markers with biologic therapy.

The aim of the present study was to investigate whether patients with psoriasis are prone to urolithiasis. Prospective analysis of 67 patients diagnosed as psoriasis (PS group) and 65 volunteers who had never been diagnosed as psoriasis (NPS group) was performed. The levels of oxalate, citrate, calcium, uric acid, magnesium, creatinine, and sodium were evaluated by analyzing the 24-h urine samples.

Background: The link between rosacea and various systemic conditions has been growing in prominence, even though the relationship between rosacea and cardiovascular disease remains a subject of debate in current research.

Aims: Detecting the connection between rosacea and subclinical atherosclerosis using laboratory and ultrasonographic parameters.

Methods: Fifty rosacea patients and 49 control were included in the study.

Objective: We aimed to detect the frequency of fibromyalgia syndrome in patients with rosacea and determine whether this frequency was affected by the severity of rosacea and the quality of life.

Methods: In this prospective, controlled, cross-sectional study, a total of 94 consecutive rosacea cases and 87 age- and sex-matched controls were enrolled. The severity of rosacea was assessed in light of the findings of the National Rosacea Society Ethics Committee.

COVID-19 infection can have a poor prognosis, especially in patients with chronic diseases and those receiving immunosuppressive or immunomodulating therapies. This study aimed to investigate the severity of COVID-19 infection in patients with psoriasis and compare the infection severity for systemic treatments and comorbidities. We conducted a study in the dermatology clinics of five different centers in the Eastern Black Sea region of Turkey.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates the long-term ocular effects of adalimumab, a tumor necrosis factor-alpha inhibitor, on patients with ankylosing spondylitis using optical coherence tomography.
  • Conducted with 26 patients on adalimumab and 21 healthy controls, findings showed that the adalimumab group had lower thickness in critical retinal measures compared to controls.
  • While the drug has potential benefits for ocular health in ankylosing spondylitis, it may also cause negative structural changes, highlighting the need for further research with a larger and diverse patient population.
