Background: Second primary malignancies (SPMs) are a well-known, long-term complication of antineoplastic treatment. This nationwide cohort study examined the risk of non-myeloid SPMs in survivors of adult acute myeloid leukaemia (AML) treated with intensive chemotherapy and, in some cases, allogeneic stem cell transplantation (alloSCT), compared to a matched general population.

Methods: Patients with incident AML between 2000 and 2018, alive and aged 18-70 years two years after start of intensive chemotherapy, were included and matched 1:10 to comparators from the general Danish population on sex, age, and the Nordic Multimorbidity Index.

Mastocytosis is a group of rare heterogeneous diseases with a prevalence previously found to be 10-23 per 100,000 persons. More awareness and improvements in the diagnostic methods in later years have led to more patients being diagnosed. Here, we set out to present the prevalence and incidence rate of mastocytosis among the adult Danish population.

A bio-based production of chemical building blocks from renewable, sustainable and non-food substrates is one key element to fight climate crisis. Lactic acid, one such chemical building block is currently produced from first generation feedstocks such as glucose and sucrose, both requiring land and water resources. In this study we aimed for lactic acid production from methanol by utilizing Komagataella phaffii as a production platform.

Overall survival (OS) for patients with a hematological cancer may differ between immigrant and Danish-born patients due to disparities in socioeconomic status, health literacy, and language proficiency. This cohort study aimed to investigate survival and hospitalization according to immigrant status while controlling for confounders. Patients with newly diagnosed hematological cancer in 2000-2020 were identified in the Danish nationwide hematological registers and stratified into Danish-born, Western, and non-Western patients.

Previous studies have suggested that metformin has beneficial effects beyond its glucose-lowering properties, particularly in terms of its potential as an antineoplastic and cancer-preventive agent. In this study, we aimed to investigate the association between metformin use and the risk of myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPN). We conducted a population-based case-control study using Danish registers.

Late toxicities can impact survivorship in patients with classical Hodgkin lymphoma (cHL) with pulmonary toxicity after bleomycin-containing chemotherapy being a concern. The incidence of pulmonary diseases was examined in this Danish population-based study. A total of 1474 adult patients with cHL treated with ABVD (doxorubicin, bleomycin, vinblastine and dacarbazine) or BEACOPP (bleomycin, vincristine, etoposide, doxorubicin, cyclophosphamide, procarbazine and prednisone) between 2000 and 2018 were included along with 7370 age- and sex-matched comparators from the background population.

Telomere biology disorder (TBD) can present within a wide spectrum of symptoms ranging from severe congenital malformations to isolated organ dysfunction in adulthood. Diagnosing TBD can be challenging given the substantial variation in symptoms and age of onset across generations. In this report, we present two families, one with a pathogenic variant in ZCCHC8 and another with a novel variant in TERC.

Cardiovascular diseases, especially congestive heart failure (CHF), are known complications of anthracyclines, but the risk for patients undergoing high-dose chemotherapy and autologous stem cell transplant (HDT-ASCT) is not well established. With T-cell therapies emerging as alternatives, studies of long-term complications after HDT-ASCT are warranted. Danish patients treated with HDT-ASCT for aggressive lymphoma between 2001 and 2017 were matched 1:5 on sex, birth year and Charlson comorbidity score to the general population.

Standard CHOP treatment includes a high cumulative dose of prednisone, and studies have shown increased fracture risk following CHOP. It is unclear whether reductions in bone mineral density (BMD) are caused by glucocorticoids or by the combination with chemotherapy. Our objective was to determine the effect of obinutuzumab (G)/rituximab (R)-bendamustine versus G/R-CHOP on BMD in follicular lymphoma patients.
