Subluxated lens: phacoemulsification with iris hooks.

We describe a technique to manage subluxated cataracts with the use of 4 or 5 disposable nylon iris hooks placed on the capsulorhexis edge to support the lens and stabilize the capsular bag during phacoemulsification. The use of an endocapsular tension ring provides excellent centration of the capsular bag, enabling endocapsular intraocular lens (IOL) implantation. Sixteen eyes with zonular dialysis between 90 degrees and 180 degrees had surgery with this technique.
