Caffeine is a psychostimulant substance that is mostly used to prevent fatigue, increase alertness, and ameliorate sleep loss situations. In this study, we aimed to investigate the effect of chronic caffeine consumption on learning and memory functions and related genes in rapid eye movement (REM) sleep-deprived rats. During the neonatal period (postnatal day [PND] 28) Wistar albino male rats (n = 32) were randomly assigned into four groups: Control (C), caffeine application (Cf), acute REM sleep-deprivation (RD), and caffeine application + acute RD (Cf + RD).

Purpose: The aim of this study is to investigate the effects of preoperative oral intake of liquid carbohydrate on postoperative stress parameters (blood glucose, insulin resistance, cortisol, noradrenaline, and adrenaline levels) in patients who underwent laparoscopic cholecystectomy.

Design: This is an experimental study with intervention and control groups.

Methods: The sample consisted of 68 patients who underwent laparoscopic cholecystectomy (control group = 33; intervention group = 35).

Introduction: Electrodermal activity (EDA) is an electrical activity of eccrine sweat gland stimulated by the sympathetic nervous system. Skin conductance level (SCL) is measured with EDA. SCL and sweat gland activity increase in emotional situations, such as high activation, attention or stress.
