Background: During the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) period, children spent more time at home, which is where most foreign body ingestions (FBIs) in children occur. We compared the rate of FBI in children in the Daegu-Kyungpook Province during COVID-19 to the rate in the 2 years before the COVID-19 period.

Methods: The period from January to December in the year 2020 was defined as the COVID-19 period, and the corresponding time period in 2018 and 2019 was defined as the pre-COVID-19 period.

As another wave of COVID-19 outbreak has approached in July 2020, a larger scale COVID-19 pediatric Asian cohort summarizing the clinical observations is warranted. Children confirmed with COVID-19 infection from the Republic of Korea, the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) and Wuhan, China, during their first waves of local outbreaks were included. Importance: There is limited information describing the full spectrum of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) and the duration of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) RNA detection in children.

Purpose: The aim of the study was to compare the virologic response to adefovir (ADV) add-on therapy with switching to entecavir (ETV) monotherapy in children and adolescents with chronic hepatitis B (CHB) who have developed lamivudine (LAM) resistance during LAM treatment.

Methods: Twenty-seven consecutive patients with CHB who had developed LAM resistance during LAM treatment were included. Of these 27 patients, 8 patients were treated with the addition of ADV to ongoing LAM and 8 patients were treated by switching to ETV monotherapy and each of these 16 patients were compared with the 11 patients who were treated by switching to ADV alone, as a historical control.

Background/aims: The aim of this study was to establish the characteristics of children with hepatitis B e antigens (HBeAg) positive chronic hepatitis B who were cleared of hepatitis B surface antigens (HBsAg) as a result of lamivudine treatment.

Methods: Seventy-six children with chronic hepatitis B who were seropositive for HBeAg were treated with lamivudine for at least 6 months. HBeAg seroconversion occurred during treatment in 49 of these children, who were then followed up to assess their clearance of serum HBsAg.
