Objective: The purpose of this study was to estimate the incidence and clinical significance of thyroid isthmus agenesis based on multi-detector CT imaging in a large-scale study.

Methods: Data from 1601 patients who underwent neck multi-detector CT at our institution from January 2015 to March 2016 were included in this retrospective study. The morphology of each patient's thyroid gland was evaluated.

Herpetic mastitis is extremely rare, and its imaging findings remain unclear. We report a case of herpes simplex mastitis in an adolescent woman and describe the clinical and ultrasound features. The patient showed unilateral nipple and areolar skin thickening and axillary lymphadenopathy on B-mode ultrasonography.

Objective: To investigate the accuracy of model-based iterative reconstruction (MIR) for volume measurement of part-solid nodules (PSNs) and solid nodules (SNs) in comparison with filtered back projection (FBP) or hybrid iterative reconstruction (HIR) at various radiation dose settings.

Materials And Methods: CT scanning was performed for eight different diameters of PSNs and SNs placed in the phantom at five radiation dose levels (120 kVp/100 mAs, 120 kVp/50 mAs, 120 kVp/20 mAs, 120 kVp/10 mAs, and 80 kVp/10 mAs). Each CT scan was reconstructed using FBP, HIR, or MIR with three different image definitions (body routine level 1 [IMR-R1], body soft tissue level 1 [IMR-ST1], and sharp plus level 1 [IMR-SP1]; Philips Healthcare).

We report on experimental realization of optical injection locking of a singly resonant continuous-wave optical parametric oscillator (OPO) based on a thermally induced waveguide in a magnesium-oxide doped periodically poled lithium niobate. An external cavity diode laser is used to control the frequency of the resonant signal output of the OPO at 795 nm. The key to successful injection locking was the improvement of the OPO spatial modes by a special operating condition with a thermally induced waveguide.

We report a continuous-wave (CW) optical parametric oscillator (OPO) based on a MgO-doped periodically poled LiNbO(3) (MgO:PPLN) crystal. The 532 nm pump generates coherent radiation that is tunable from 800 to 920 nm for the signal and from 1250 to 1580 nm for the idler, respectively. The OPO output power exhibits a slowly varying instability that we attribute to a thermal effect induced by the pump.

We investigated a source coherence effect on the measurement of the optical fiber nonlinear coefficient by use of dual optical frequencies. We produced coherent and incoherent dual optical frequencies with a self-heterodyne Mach-Zehnder interferometer with and without a delay line, respectively. Our measurement results included both an electrostrictive and a Kerr nonlinear coefficient because of the low modulation frequency.

We study threshold features of a Brillouin-shifted Stokes comb generated in a distributed fiber Raman amplifier. When the input power of Brillouin pump is linearly increased in high Raman gain, the first Stokes wave grows exponentially at much lower threshold power and then experiences an appreciable power decrease in the vicinity of the Brillouin comb's threshold. This power reduction of the first Brillouin Stokes, which we did not see mentioned in previous reports, was caused by a power transfer to higher-order lines and initiated Brillouin comb generation.
