Background: Employee stress and well-being affect organizational efficiency and productivity, as well as physical and psychological health of employees. Mindfulness is believed to reduce stress, prevent diseases, and promote well-being. Mindfulness has been used as the main component of various smartphone-based healthcare applications.

Effects of MEH-PPV Molecular Ordering in the Emitting Layer on the Luminescence Efficiency of Organic Light-Emitting Diodes.

We investigated the effects of molecular ordering on the electro-optical characteristics of organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) with an emission layer (EML) of poly[2-methoxy-5-(2-ethylhexyloxy)-1,4-phenylenevinylene] (MEH-PPV). The EML was fabricated by a solution process which can make molecules ordered. The performance of the OLED devices with the molecular ordering method was compared to that obtained through fabrication by a conventional spin coating method.

Interstitial lung disease induced by the roots of : Three case reports.

Background: The roots of (AJN), called "Useul-puli," has been traditionally used to control pain and improve dysfunction in osteoarthritis patients in South Korea.

Case Summary: We described 3 patients diagnosed with herbal medicine induced interstitial lung disease after consuming boiled the roots of AJN. They were referred to our hospital because of the modified Medical Research Council grade 4 dyspnea.

Improved hole injection for blue phosphorescent organic light-emitting diodes using solution deposited tin oxide nano-particles decorated ITO anodes.

Blue phosphorescent organic light-emitting diodes (PHOLEDs) were fabricated with tin oxide (SnO) nano-particles (NPs) deposited at the ITO anode to improve their electrical and optical performances. SnO NPs helped ITO to increase the work function enhancing hole injection capability. Charge balance of the device was achieved using p- and n-type mixed host materials in emissive layer and the devices' luminance and maximum external quantum efficiency (EQE) increased about nearly 30%.

Gordonic Acid, a Polyketide Glycoside Derived from Bacterial Coculture of Streptomyces and Gordonia Species.

Despite numerous efforts to discover novel bioactive products from microorganisms, previously reported compounds are repetitively reisolated. A new polyketide glycoside, gordonic acid (1), isolated from the mixed culture of two Gram-positive bacteria, Gordonia sp. KMC005 and Streptomyces tendae KMC006, is reported.

The clinical characteristics of pleural effusion in scrub typhus.

Background: The aim of this study is to identify the factors associated with the occurrence of pleural effusion and to investigate the characteristics of pleural effusion in scrub typhus.

Methods: We conducted a retrospective analysis of the medical records of scrub typhus patients between January 2004 and December 2011 at Chosun University Hospital in South Korea. A total of 445 scrub typhus patients were divided into the following two groups: without (n = 352) or with pleural effusion (n = 93).

Pontemazines A and B, phenazine derivatives containing a methylamine linkage from Streptomyces sp. UT1123 and their protective effect to HT-22 neuronal cells.

New phenazine derivatives with a methylamine linker, Pontemazines A (1) and B (2), were isolated from the culture broth of Streptomyces sp. UT1123. The structures of compounds 1 and 2 were determined by NMR spectroscopy and high-resolution mass spectrometry.

New distribution records for Canadian Aleocharinae (Coleoptera, Staphylinidae), and new synonymies for Trichiusa.

Fifty-four new Canadian provincial records of aleocharine beetles (Staphylinidae), including three new Canadian records and one new North American record, are presented. Of these, 33 are new provincial records for Saskatchewan, 14 for Alberta, two for British Columbia, three for Manitoba, two for the Northwest Territories and one for the Yukon Territory. The following are new Canadian records: Trichiusapilosa Casey [formerly reported from Nova Scotia and Ontario as Trichiusapostica Casey], Acrotonarecondita (Erichson) and the adventive Palaearctic Athetanigra (Kraatz), which is also a new North American record.

Cloning and characterization of the N-methyl-D-aspartate receptor subunit NR1 gene from chum salmon, Oncorhynchus keta (Walbaum, 1792).

Here, we report the information about molecular and expression characterization of NR1 gene in chum salmon for the first time. The complete NR1 subunit showed a large open-reading frame of 2844 bp in the total length of 3193 bp, and this cDNA contained a coding region encoding 948 amino acids and a stop codon. The organization of the NR1 subunit of chum salmon were similar of most other fishes, except C' terminal.

Education, reregistration, and recommendation effect of iPhone Poomsae education app in Taekwondo academy.

This paper analyzed the effect of a smartphone application in Taekwondo Academy. The iPhone app was self-developed to display Taekwondo education contents for Poomsae training. From the viewpoint of education, reregistration and recommendation effect, it showed statistically significant difference in 196 trainee sample survey.

Wing-dimorphism and population expansion of Pterostichus melanarius (Illiger, 1798) at small and large scales in central Alberta, Canada (Coleoptera, Carabidae, Pterostichini).

A study spanning ten years revealed changes in wing-morph ratios corroborating the hypothesis that the wing-dimorphic introduced carabid, Pterostichus melanarius Ill.,is spreading through flight, from the city of Edmonton, Canada and establishing populations in natural aspen forest of more rural areas 45-50 km to the East. Comparison of wing-morph ratios between Pterostichus melanarius and the native wing dimorphic species Agonum retractum LeConte suggests that the spatial variation in ratios for Pterostichus melanarius does not reflect underlying environmental variation, but instead the action of selective forces on this wing-dimorphic species.

Newly formed cystic lesions for the development of pneumomediastinum in Pneumocystis jirovecii pneumonia.

Background: Pneumocystis jirovecii, formerly named Pneumocystis carinii, is one of the most common opportunistic infections in human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)-infected patients.

Case Presentations: We encountered two cases of spontaneous pneumomediastinum with subcutaneous emphysema in HIV-infected patients being treated for Pneumocystis jirovecii pneumonia with trimethoprim/sulfamethoxazole.

Conclusion: Clinicians should be aware that cystic lesions and bronchiectasis can develop in spite of trimethoprim/sulfamethoxazole treatment for P.

Effects of esomeprazole premedication on gastric pH during laparoscopic surgery.

Background: The use of CO2 for pneumoperitoneum during laparoscopic surgery provokes a decrement in the gastric pH. Since the incidence rate of PONV increases after laparoscopic surgery, the possibility of lung aspiration of gastric juice with a low pH during a postanesthetic emergence may increase and this could be fatal for the patient. We conducted this study to determine the effects of esomeprazole premedication on inhibiting the decrement of the gastric pH during laparoscopic surgery.

Artificial transcription factors increase production of recombinant antibodies in Chinese hamster ovary cells.

A randomized library that encodes for artificial zinc finger protein transcription factors (ZFP-TF) was constructed and screened for components that increased production of a monoclonal antibody (mAb-72) in Chinese hamster ovary (CHO) cells. One of these ZFP-TF, LK52, increased mAb-72 production approximately 10-fold at approximately 60% transduction efficiency; a mutated version of LK52, however, did not boost mAb-72 production. LK52 also increased production of other mAbs in CHO cells.

Antimutagenicity and cytotoxicity of the constituents from the aerial parts of Rumex acetosa.

Four anthraquinones isolated for the first time from the aerial parts of Rumex acetosa (Polygonaceae), a Korean and a Japanese medicinal plant, and two synthetic derivatives were examined for their cytotoxicities against five cultured human tumor cell lines, i.e. A549 (non-small cell lung), SK-OV-3 (ovary), SK-MEL-2 (melanoma), XF498 (central nerve system) and HCY15 (colon), using the Sulfrhodamine-B method in vitro and antimutagenic activities by Ames test with Salmonella typhimurium TA98 and TA100 and SOS chromotest with E.

Antimutagenic constituents from the thorns of Gleditsia sinensis.

Antimutagenic activity-guided fractionation of an extract prepared from the thorns of Gleditsia sinensis LAM. led to the isolation of one triterpenoid and four steroids, which were identified as D:C-friedours-7-en-3-one (1), stigmast-4-ene-3,6-dione (2), stigmastane-3,6-dione (3), stigmasterol (4), and beta-sitosterol (5). Triterpenoid 1 was found for the first time in a natural source and the steroids 2-5 were first isolated from this plant.

Inhibitory effects of the essential oil from SuHeXiang Wan on the central nervous system after inhalation.

The present study was performed to evaluate the central nervous system inhibitory effects of the essential oil from SuHeXiang Wan (Storax pill), a prescription usually used for treating epilepsy in traditional Chinese medicine, on fragrance inhalation (aroma therapy). Preinhalation of the fragrance oil markedly delayed the appearance of pentylenetetrazole-induced convulsion, but showed weak activities on picrotoxin- and strychnine-induced convulsions, which implies this drug may inhibit the convulsion by GABAergic neuromodulation. This essential oil inhibited the binding of [(3)H]Ro15-1788, a selective antagonist for the benzodiazepine receptor and also the binding of [(3)H]flunitrazepam, a selective agonist for the receptor, in the presence of gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) and NaCl, showing a positive GABA shift, which suggested the strong possibility of the agonistic activity of the essential oil to the GABA/benzodiazepine receptor complex in rat cerebral cortices.

Synthesis and in vitro evaluation of 1,8-diazaanthraquinones bearing 3-dialkylaminomethyl or 3-(N-alkyl- or N-aryl)carbamoyloxymethyl substituent.

A series of 1,8-diazaanthraquinone derivatives carrying a 3-dialkylaminomethyl or a 3-(N-alkyl or aryl)carbamoyloxymethyl substituent was synthesised and their in vitro cytotoxic activities were evaluated against eight human cancer cell lines (HOP62, SK-OV-3, HCT-15, SF295, MCF7, SNU-354, KB-3-1 and KB-V-1). A number of compounds including 8c, 8d and 11c showed cytotoxic activity comparable to that of doxorubicin against all human cancer cell lines tested. The compounds 8c and 8d were 2-100 times more potent than doxorubicin against HCT-15, MCF7 and SNU-354 cancer cell lines.
