The purpose of this study was to undertake a comprehensive assessment of each stage of the end-of-life process and the home care nursing needs of non-cancer patients. The total number of eligible patients was 117 in Korea and 121 in Japan, aged ≥ 40, receiving continuous home care nursing throughout the beginning, stable, and at final death stages and ultimately dying at home. The need for the 'management of physical symptoms' increased as patients progressed through the end-of-life stages to death.

The present study assessed the decision-making and communication capacities of older adults with dementia who required assistance and care and measured the subsequent changes in these capacities. Of 845 older adults who received long-term care between April 2003 and December 2004, about half of them without dementia were excluded and the remaining 448 were finally included in the analyses. These individuals were completed follow-up for assessment for two years.

The aim of this study was to determine whether home modification was associated with subsequent progression of frailty and mortality in older adults. We conducted a prospective cohort study in 574 adults 65 and older who required a low or moderate level of care. Of these, 34% modified their homes-most frequently a corridor-and the most common type of modification was the installation of handrails.

In order to develop an effective preventive intervention for depression, this cross-sectional study aimed to analyze the relationship between past lifestyle, social activity, and depressive symptoms among community-dwelling elderly people in Japan (n = 887). The Geriatric Depression Scale was used for assessing depressive symptoms. The lifestyle of middle-aged people was assessed using a recall report.

The purpose of the present study was to identify which factors in care management affect client outcomes. We performed path analysis using care management processes as independent variables, and client outcomes measures as dependent variables. Client outcomes were measured by improvement in care items and Functional Independence Measure (FIM) scores in 170 clients, and client satisfaction in 97 clients.
