Epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR)-mutation-positive non-smallcell lung cancer (NSCLC) is incurable, despite high rates of response to EGFR tyrosine kinase inhibitors (TKIs). We investigated receptor tyrosine kinases (RTKs), Src family kinases and focal adhesion kinase (FAK) as genetic modifiers of innate resistance in EGFR-mutation-positive NSCLC. We performed gene expression analysis in two cohorts (Cohort 1 and Cohort 2) of EGFR-mutation-positive NSCLC patients treated with EGFR TKI.

Conjunctival actinic keratosis is rare and difficult to treat, as recurrences are common. Imiquimod, an immune response modulator, is currently Food and Drug Administration-approved for cutaneous actinic keratosis and superficial basal cell carcinomas. Emerging reports have shown it to be effective in treating some periocular and conjunctival lesions.

Methods: Six consecutive patients underwent stereotactic-guided three wall orbital decompression using the novel Fusion ENT Navigation System (Medtronic), a portable and expandable electromagnetic guidance system with multi-instrument tracking capabilities. The system consists of the Medtronic LandmarX System software-enabled computer station, signal generator, field-generating magnet, head-mounted marker coil, and surgical tracking instruments.

Transorbital foreign bodies threaten both the integrity of the globe and the brain. We present an unusual case of a penetrating right frontal lobe-orbital metallic shower hook. Extensive intracranial involvement necessitated transcranial orbitotomy allowing for the removal of the object without loss of the globe.

Methods: Retrospective chart review of 31 men and 31 women with untreated thyroid eye disease. Subjective complaints, smoking status, thyroid status, and objective findings pertinent to the clinical activity score (CAS) and "NO SPECS" classification were recorded.
Objective: Bilateral lacrimal gland (LG) disease is a unique presentation that can result from varied causes. We reviewed the diagnoses, clinical features, and outcomes of 97 patients with this entity.
Design: Case series.

Purpose: To describe the clinical features, management, and outcomes of 15 patients with cutaneous melanoma metastatic to the orbit. The authors review emerging treatments for metastatic melanoma and their ocular implications.
Methods: Retrospective chart review of 15 patients with orbital metastasis from cutaneous melanoma.
Osteoid osteomas are benign bone tumors first described by Jaffe in 1935. They are usually located within the cortex of long bones in the lower extremities. These types of tumors are rare in the skull area, representing less than 1% of benign cases.

Spontaneous subperiosteal orbital hemorrhage (SSOH) is rare and has been reported with sudden elevation of cranial venous pressure, bleeding diathesis, and sinusitis. This article presents a series of 9 patients (11 orbits) with SSOH and review the associated systemic conditions.

Design: Case report.
Results: A 68 year-old woman presented with a unilateral periocular rash that was initially treated by her primary ophthalmologist with topical steroids and antivirals.
Orbital abscess formation in neonates is rare, with only 12 cases reported in the literature. We present a case of orbital cellulitis with orbital abscesses following repair of congenital choanal atresia in a 2-week-old neonate. This is the first reported case of an orbital abscess following a sinus procedure in a neonate.

Observations: We report 5 cases of periocular necrotizing fasciitis resulting in severe vision loss, 3 of which required exenteration to contain the disease and only 1 of which recovered vision. Three cases were caused by group A streptococcus; 1, by methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus; and 1, by Streptococcus anginosus constellatus.
A 39-year-old man presented after falling on a radio antenna while in his yard. Computed tomography revealed that the antenna entered the right superolateral orbit, penetrating through the right orbital roof and extending into the right frontal lobe. A Stallard orbitotomy was performed to remove the antenna resulting in blepharoptosis.

A 49-year-old woman, who had previously undergone bilateral Jones tube placement, began nasal continuous positive airway pressure for obstructive sleep apnea. The patient's use of continuous positive airway pressure was limited by intolerance of the transfer of air through the Jones tube to her ocular surface resulting in irritation and discomfort. A change from nasal continuous positive airway pressure to a full face mask, including both Jones tubes in the pressure circuit, resolved the problem.

Non-infectious vasculitides comprise a large number of diseases. Many of these diseases can cause inflammation within the orbit and a clinical presentation, which mimics numerous other processes. Orbital disease can often be the initial presentation of a systemic process and early diagnosis can help prevent long-term, potentially fatal consequences.

Over the last two decades, advances in the understanding of the pathogenesis of inflammatory diseases, as well as improved biotechnology, have enabled selective targeting of the chemical mediators of diseases. Recently, a new class of drugs called biologics, that target the various mediators of the inflammation cascade, may potentially provide more effective and less toxic treatment.

The purpose of this report is to detail the clinical and histologic findings of a rare trichoadenoma of the eyelid. A 63-year-old male with a recurrent left lower eyelid lesion underwent a shave biopsy with inconclusive results until referred to an oculoplastic surgeon. The patient presented with a lesion suspicious for sebaceous cell carcinoma of the eyelid.
