Breast sensibility after reconstruction: Comparison of different methods.

Background And Objectives: Sensibility of the breast area is a key factor in quality-of-life evaluation after breast reconstruction (BR). Breast sensation can be assessed using numerous tools that are already largely described in the literature, including the Semmes Weinstein filaments which remain the most frequently used. Although different reconstruction techniques are available, post-BR sensitivity is rarely described.

Prevalence study of body dysmorphic disorder symptoms in plastic surgery.

Introduction: The objective of this work was to determine the prevalence of Body Dysmorphic Disorder (BDD) symptoms in plastic and aesthetic surgery consultations in a large cohort of patients presenting for initial consultations for various indications.

Results: We conducted a prospective, single-center cohort study between January 2022 and November 2022. A total of 1169 questionnaires were collected, and 842 patients were included in the study.

Introduction: The anterolateral thigh flap is sometimes harvested with a portion of the quadriceps muscle fascia, which can lead to muscle hernias or adhesions at the donor site. Studies report an 11 to 32% incidence of muscle hernias and an 8 to 26% incidence of persistent weakness at the donor site. There is no data in the scientific literature presenting a surgical technique for the prevention of muscle hernias at the donor site of the anterolateral thigh flap.

Background: Breast reduction surgery often concern women of childbearing age. However, it can interfere with the ability to breastfeed, whereas the benefits of breastfeeding are well known. Current data in the literature do not provide precise information on the possibilities of breastfeeding after breast reduction surgery.

In vitro effects of wound-dressings on key wound healing properties of dermal fibroblasts.

Healing of complex wounds requires dressings that must, at least, not hinder and should ideally promote the activity of key healing cells, in particular fibroblasts. This in vitro study assessed the effects of three wound-dressings (a pure Ca alginate: Algostéril®, a Ca alginate + carboxymethylcellulose: Biatain alginate® and a polyacrylate impregnated with lipido-colloid matrix: UrgoClean®) on dermal fibroblast activity. The results showed the pure calcium alginate to be non-cytotoxic, whereas the other wound-dressings showed moderate to strong cytotoxicity.

Short- and long-term morbidity after Taylor flap (oblique rectus abdominis flap) for perineal reconstruction after abdominoperineal resection: A single-center series of 140 patients.

Background: Abdominoperineal resection (APR) leads to a substantial loss of tissue and a high rate of complications. The Taylor flap is a musculocutaneous flap used in reconstruction after APR.

Objectives: We aimed to analyze the short and long-term morbidity of reconstruction with a Taylor flap (oblique rectus abdominis flap) after APR and to identify the risk factors for postoperative complications.

Evidence of inter- and intra-keloid heterogeneity through analysis of dermal fibroblasts: A new insight in deciphering keloid physiopathology.

Keloid scars are hypertrophic and proliferating pathological scars extending beyond the initial lesion and without tendency to regression. Usually, keloids are considered and treated as a single entity but clinical observations suggest heterogeneity in keloid morphologies with distinction of superficial/extensive and nodular entities. Within a keloid, heterogeneity could also be detected between superficial and deep dermis or centre and periphery.

This article presents a recοnstructiοn series οf severe fοrefοοt defοrmities by means of dermal regeneratiοn templates (also known as dermal substitutes) and split thickness skin grafts.

Modulation of NK cell activation by exogenous calcium from alginate dressings .

Natural Killer (NK) cells participate in the defense against infection by killing pathogens and infected cells and secreting immuno-modulatory cytokines. Defects in NK cell activity have been reported in obese, diabetic, and elderly patients that are at high risk of developing infected chronic wounds. Calcium alginate dressings are indicated for the debridement during the inflammatory phase of healing.

Characteristics and prognosis of Herpesviridae-related pneumonia in critically ill burn patients.

Background: The aim of this study was to describe the prevalence, characteristics and outcome of critically burn patients with pulmonary HSV reactivation.

Methods: Retrospective, single-center cohort study in a burn critical care unit in a tertiary center, including all consecutive severely burn patients with bronchoalveolar lavage performed for pneumoniae suspicion and screened for HSV from January 2013 and April 2017. We used logistic regression to identify factors associated with HSV reactivation and outcomes.

A new therapeutic protocol for the treatment of keloid scars: a retrospective study.

Objective: There are few means to treat large keloid scars, as exeresis-even if partial-impedes direct closure without tension in the absence of a flap or a skin graft. This study evaluates the efficacy, indications for use and limitations of a new therapeutic protocol, combining an extralesional keloid excision left to heal by secondary intention with a paraffin dressing and glucocorticoid ointment, followed by monthly intrascar injections of corticosteroids upon full re-epithelialisation.
