Background: The prevalence of colorectal cancer (CRC) in patients with ulcerative colitis (UC) is higher than in the general population, in Latin America there is a progressive increase of UC, and information about CRC screening in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is scarce. Bainbridge-Ropers Syndrome (BRPS) is a genetic condition resulting from truncating variants in the ASXL3 gene. Faced with nutritional stress, some bacteria form endospores capable of enduring extreme conditions for long periods of time; yet the function of many proteins expressed during sporulation remains a mystery. We identify one such protein, KapD, as a 3'-exoribonuclease expressed under control of the mother cell-specific transcription factors SigE and SigK in Bacillus subtilis. KapD dynamically assembles over the spore surface through a direct interaction with the major crust protein CotY.

UVA radiation and visible light can lead to indirect damage to DNA, proteins, and lipids through photosensitized reactions, where a molecule undergoes a photochemical alteration by the initial absorption of radiation by another molecular entity called photosensitizer (Sens). The chemical changes undergone by biomolecules in photosensitized reactions can trigger important adverse processes such as photoallergy, phototoxicity, and skin cancer, among others. Despite the knowledge about photosensitized reactions and the fact that many endogenous compounds present in the skin can act as Sens, UVA, and visible light are widely used in several devices for domestic and general use without a thorough evaluation of their possible harmful effects; one prominent example is UV-nail polish dryers.

Longitudinal studies are crucial for understanding complex microbiome dynamics and their link to health. We introduce TEMPoral TEnsor Decomposition (TEMPTED), a time-informed dimensionality reduction method for high-dimensional longitudinal data that treats time as a continuous variable, effectively characterizing temporal information and handling varying temporal sampling. TEMPTED captures key microbial dynamics, facilitates beta-diversity analysis, and enhances reproducibility by transferring learned representations to new data.

Preeclampsia is a severe obstetrical syndrome which contributes to 10-15% of all maternal deaths. Although the mechanisms underlying systemic damage in preeclampsia-such as impaired placentation, endothelial dysfunction, and immune dysregulation-are well studied, the initial triggers of the condition remain largely unknown. Furthermore, although the pathogenesis of preeclampsia begins early in pregnancy, there are no early diagnostics for this life-threatening syndrome, which is typically diagnosed much later, after systemic damage has already manifested.

Acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL) is a hematopoietic disorder that mainly affects the child population, and it is characterized by the presence of lymphoid progenitor or precursor cells with different genetic alterations. The origin of this disease is controversial, since some authors assumed that leukemic transformation occurs in a lymphoid progenitor, and there is also evidence that suggests the existence of leukemic initiating cells (LIC). PTL, DMAPT, and PU-H71 are agents that have been shown to eliminate bulk and stem cells from myeloid leukemias, but this effect has not been analyzed in lymphoblastic leukemias.
