In order to assess the acceptability of a new scent-free formulation of mometasone furoate (Nasonex) among allergic rhinitis patients, who already have been treated by the scented formulation of Nasonex, a phone survey was performed with a sample of 216 patients recruited by Nasonex GP's prescribers and pharmacists. The aim of this survey is to assess the diagnosis modalities, the allergic rhinitis characteristics and associated symptoms in one hand and in the other hand, the main reasons which led them to prefer a new scent-free formulation, in comparison with the only commercialized scented mometasone furoate (Nasonex) at the time when this survey was conducted. The impact of unscented Nasonex on patient's compliance to treatment was also assessed.

This preliminary qualitative study identified African-American students' perceptions of their majors, future professions, and the dietetics major/profession to understand why they did or did not enter dietetics. It was hypothesized that dietetics students chose dietetics primarily for altruistic reasons, whereas students in other fields of study did not choose dietetics due to lack of awareness of dietetics.

Acquired CEBPA mutations have been found in acute myeloid leukemias (AML) with a good prognosis, and most of these patients have a normal karyotype. In this paper, we report four cases that displayed the same K313dup in the CEBPA gene.

Material And Method: Retrospective study of 393 cases in the period 2001--2006, divided into group (A) 47 patients with 3-5 cm T2N0 tumours and group (B) 346 patients T < 3 cm, N0. We employed the combined technique with 99mTc-colloidal rhenium sulphide and isosulfan blue dye.
The use of fluctuating asymmetry (FA) for biomonitoring environmental stress is limited by the lack of work on how FA in particular traits responds to specific stresses. Here, by manipulating the number of individuals in an enclosed fallow deer (Dama dama) population, we describe, for the first time, clear density dependence in the FA of juvenile jaw morphology. The impact of high population density on FA was strong for both sexes, supporting the use of FA for indexing environmental stress.

Recent insights have allowed normal karyotype acute myeloid leukemia (AML) to be split into many molecular entities according to the genetic status of FLT3, NPM, CEBPA and MLL. Genome-wide single nucleotide polymorphism analysis was performed on 22 well-characterised AML patients with a normal karyotype.

Material And Methods: A nation wide mail survey was conducted on the whole set of 2,800 French ENT specialists. Physicians had to use the PNIF in 4-consecutive patients with allergic rhinitis and assess through a questionnaire their interest for this tool.
Purpose: To present our experience in the therapeutic approach of the sentinel node biopsy (SNB) in patients with previous excision of the breast cancer, divided in non-palpable and palpable lesions, in comparison with time treatment and stagement of breast cancer.
Methods: In the period 2001-2006, 138 patients with prior diagnostic excisional biopsy (96 non-palpable and 42 palpable breast cancer) and 328 without previous surgery (32 non-palpable; 296 palpable cancer) were treated. The combined technique ((99m)Tc-colloidal rhenium and isosulfan blue dye) was the approach for sentinel lymph node (SLN) detection.
Acute myeloid leukemia (AML) is a heterogeneous group of disorders characterized by an abnormal proliferation of the myeloid precursors and a maturation block. The most common chromosomal lesions in AML are the t(8;21) and inv(16). To better understand the leukemogenic mechanism of these fusion proteins, we performed gene expression studies in samples from (8;21), AML1 mutated and inv(16) patients, as well as from the Kasumi-1 cell line and a U937 cell line expressing the AML1-ETO fusion gene.

CEACAM family members are a set of widely expressed proteins involved in several biological functions, including cell adhesion, migration, signal transduction, and the regulation of gene expression. Abnormal overexpression and downregulation of some CEACAMs have been described in tumor cells. Monoclonal antibodies grouped in the CD66 cluster recognize CEACAM members.

Often described as science "from bench to bedside and back again," translational research may be better described as "from bench to behavior," as it strives to apply laboratory results to clinical settings. Because the demand for translational research has emerged, it is critical for nutrition educators to ensure that translational research includes community and policy areas and to recognize themselves as translation researchers.

The auditory and vestibular endorgans of the inner ear which are essential for the senses of hearing and balance form early during development when the otocyst undergoes a period of rapid growth and compartmentalization. Here we show the spatial and temporal patterns of proliferating cells in the Xenopus laevis inner ear as this organ develops from an otic vesicle at stage 31 until stage 47, an age at which compartmentalization and the initial appearance of sensory structures are evident. Sites of new cell production were identified in specimens at stages 31, 37, 42, 45 and 47 using immunohistochemical methods to detect bromodeoxyuridine (BrdU) incorporation three hours after exposure to this thymidine analogue.

View Article and Find Full Text PDFA wide range of networks, including those with small-world topology, can be modeled by the connectivity ratio and randomness of the links. Both learning and attractor abilities of a neural network can be measured by the mutual information (MI) as a function of the load and the overlap between patterns and retrieval states. In this letter, we use MI to search for the optimal topology with regard to the storage and attractor properties of the network in an Amari-Hopfield model.

Acetaldehyde, the main biological metabolite of ethanol, is nowadays considered to mediate some ethanol-induced effects. Previous studies on alcohol effect attenuation have shown that D-(-)-penicillamine (3-mercapto-D-valine), a thiol amino acid, acts as an effective agent for the inactivation of acetaldehyde. In the study reported here, laboratory rats were treated with ethanol and D-(-)-penicillamine at different doses looking for the interaction (in vivo) of D-(-)-penicillamine with metabolically formed acetaldehyde following a condensation reaction to form the stable adduct (4S,2RS)-2,5,5-trimethylthiazolidine-4-carboxylic acid (TMTCA).
