Article Synopsis
  • - Type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM) is linked to increased risks of sarcopenia (muscle loss) and has a complex relationship with osteoporosis (OP) in postmenopausal women, highlighting the need for further study on these connections.
  • - A study involving 444 postmenopausal women found that those with DM had higher rates of sarcopenia (23.4%) and lower rates of OP (33.5%) compared to controls, suggesting differing impacts of DM on muscle and bone health.
  • - Results indicated that longer menopause duration positively influenced OP risk, while higher age and body mass index correlated with greater sarcopenia risk; DM appeared to negatively impact OLST scores, reflecting challenges

Purpose: Pupillary contraction and dilatation are organized by the autonomic nervous system, which can also be affected by Graves' disease (GD). In this study, it was aimed to investigate the static and dynamic pupillary responses of Graves' patients in the hyperthyroid and euthyroid periods and to compare these results with the values obtained from healthy controls.

Methods: 48 eyes of 24 newly diagnosed Graves' patients with clinical activity score ≤ 2 and 46 eyes of 23 age- and sex-matched healthy controls were included in the study.

Purpose: Chat Generative Pre-trained Transformer (ChatGPT) is now utilized in various fields of healthcare in order to obtain answers to questions related to healthcare-related problems and to evaluate available information. Primary hyperparathyroidism is a common endocrine disorder. We aimed to evaluate the accuracy and quality of ChatGPT's responses to questions specific to hyperparathyroidism cases discussed at multidisciplinary endocrinology meetings.

Background: The safety of glucagon-like peptide-1 receptor agonists in pregnancy is under investigation. In this report, we want to share the results of a patient with polycystic ovary syndrome who applied to our outpatient clinic for diabetes and had two unplanned pregnancies following the initiation of exenatide for obesity treatment.

Case Presentation: A 40-year-old woman with diabetes was admitted to the endocrinology outpatient clinic.

Purpose: Sodium glucose co-transporter (SGLT) 2 inhibitors are oral anti-diabetic drugs with proven kidney protective effects. Renal protective effects in non-diabetic individuals have also been shown in recent studies. The aim of this study was to determine the renal protective effects of dapagliflozin by evaluating the oxidative stress markers in the kidney tissue and demonstrating it in renal histological sections in an iron-overloaded rat model.

Introduction: Although cataract formation is known in hypoparathyroidism, lens clarity and its correlation with clinical parameters have not been investigated quantitatively before in patients with hypoparathyroidism. The aim of this study was to compare the crystalline lens clarity of patients with surgically induced hypoparathyroidism and healthy subjects.

Materials And Methods: Forty female patients with surgically induced hypoparathyroidism and 38 age-matched healthy female subjects were enrolled in this study.

Objective: The present study was aimed to explore the potential ameliorating effects of N-acetyl cysteine (NAC) against radioiodine (RAI)-induced early liver damage.

Methods: Thirty Wistar Albino male rats were arbitrarily allocated into three groups each containing 10 rats: the control group (group 1); the RAI group (group 2), oral 111 MBq/kg radioiodine was administered to rats; the RAI + NAC group (group 3), 150 mg/kg/day intraperitoneal NAC treatment was initiated 3 days prior to the RAI administration and continued for 10 days. Liver samples were obtained 24 h after the last dose of NAC therapy for biochemical and histopathologic evaluation.

Background: Sodium-glucose cotransporter 2 (SGLT2) inhibitors (SGLT2i) are considered a new class antidiabetic agent, as well as lowering blood sugar, it has many positive effects. This study aimed to investigate the effects of SLGT2i on the gastric mucosa.

Methods: We investigated the effects of empagliflozin on indomethacin-induced gastritis using 48 male Wistar Albino rats.

Background: Postoperative hypoparathyroidism (PO-HypoPT) is a complication usually seen after thyroid surgery. PO-HypoPT, which lasts longer than 6 months is defined permanently. The aim of this study was to evaluate how close permanent PO-HypoPT patients can approach target values.

Purpose: To investigate the retinal microvasculature in patients with surgically induced hypoparathyroidism who have no clinical evidence of retinopathy and to compare these data with those of healthy control subjects.

Methods: Forty patients with a confirmed diagnosis of permanent hypoparathyroidism and no clinical evidence of retinopathy and 37 age- and sex-matched healthy control subjects were included in the study. After complete ophthalmological examination, all patients underwent optical coherence tomography angiography measurement (Optovue Inc.

Background/aim: The most common causes of thyrotoxicosis include Graves’ disease (GD), toxic multinodular goiter (TMNG), toxic adenoma (TA), and subacute granulomatous thyroiditis (SAT). In our study, we aimed to see whether neutrophil‐to‐lymphocyte ratio (NLR), monocyte-to-lymphocyte ratio (MLR), platelet‐to‐lymphocyte ratio (PLR), and mean platelet volume (MPV) may be helpful in the differential diagnosis of these diseases.

Materials And Methods: We retrospectively analyzed the hospital records of the Endocrinology Clinic of our hospital between 2016 and 2019.

Article Synopsis
  • * Rats were divided into three groups: a control group, a group receiving iron dextran, and a group receiving both iron dextran and exenatide.
  • * Results showed that exenatide significantly reduced markers of oxidative stress and apoptosis in the testicular cells of the iron-overloaded rats, suggesting it may protect against damage from iron accumulation.

Background: Heart type fatty acid binding protein (H-FABP) is a small protein and released into the circulation when myocardial damage has occurred. Previous studies have demonstrated that H-FABP is closely associated with cardiac and some endocrinologic disorders including prediabetes, metabolic syndrome, and acromegaly. Hyperthyroism is a well-known disorder associated with cardiovascular diseases.
