Stimulus identification and action outcome understanding for a rapid and accurate response selection, play a fundamental role in racquet sports. Here, we investigated the neurodynamics of visual anticipation in tennis manipulating the postural and kinematic information associated with the body of opponents by means of a spatial occlusion protocol. Event Related Potentials (ERPs) were evaluated in two groups of professional tennis players (N = 37) with different levels of expertise, while they observed pictures of opponents and predicted the landing position as fast and accurately as possible.

This in vitro study aimed to evaluate the growth-inhibitory effects against periodontal disease-causing bacteria and cytotoxic effects against mouse fibroblast cells of the Stryphnodendron adstringens (barbatimão) hydroalcoholic extract. The contents of phenols and tannins in the extract were determined. The growth-inhibitory activity of the barbatimão was evaluated by determining the minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) and minimum bactericidal concentration (MBC).

Article Synopsis
  • The Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade (TAST) shaped genetic and cultural diversity in populations, with Cabo Verde as a key site for studying admixture between Europeans and Africans.
  • Using genomic and linguistic data, the study reveals early admixture mainly between Iberians and Senegambian populations, influenced by forced and voluntary migrations.
  • The findings suggest that genetic diversity and Kriolu language variation developed regionally within the islands, reflecting complex socio-cultural dynamics during and after the TAST era.

Since the end of 2019 and throughout 2020, the world has been devastated by the COVID-19 pandemic. The sports world suddenly had to deal with a massive reorganization of events with important implications for the physical and psychological preparation of athletes and coaches. The psychological consequences of the lockdown in the sport context have been well studied. However, few studies investigated athletes' perceived stress during the rebooting in sport training and competitions; moreover, no investigations examined the relationship between perceived stress and interoceptive awareness. To mind this gap and support the enactment of appropriate behaviours for practising sports in a unique situation, we compared athletes' perceived stress data collected during the rebooting in sport activities with normative data and with those collected during the first Italian lockdown.

Background: Accurate cause of death data are essential to guide health policy. However, mortality surveillance is limited in many low-income countries. In such settings, verbal autopsy (VA) is increasingly used to provide population-level cause of death data.

Supramolecular chemistry has become a central theme in chemical and biological sciences over the last decades. Supramolecular structures are being increasingly used in biomedical applications, particularly in devices requiring specific stimuli-responsiveness. Fullerenes, and supramolecular assemblies thereof, have gained great visibility in biomedical sciences and engineering.

Background: In 2012, the central government of Spain enacted Royal Decree-Law (RDL) 16/2012 and Royal Decree (RD) 1192/2012, which abolished universal healthcare coverage, thus limiting access to care for undocumented immigrants. Free health care was also no longer granted to anyone who has never been employed. In this context, this study investigated the prevalence of late HIV diagnoses (LHDs) among immigrants living in Spain vs.

Introduction: Latinos in the United States represent a heterogeneous population disproportionally impacted by obesity. Yet, the prevalence of obesity by specific Latino group is unclear. Using the New York City Community Health Survey (2013-2017), this study compared self-reported obesity in the city's largest Latino adult populations (Puerto Ricans, Mexicans, Dominicans, Ecuadorians, and Colombians).

Background: In 2012, the Government of Spain enacted Royal Decree-Law (RDL) 16/2012 and Royal Decree (RD) 1192/2012 excluding undocumented immigrants from publicly funded healthcare services. We conducted a policy implementation analysis to describe and evaluate the legal and regulatory actions taken at the autonomous community (AC) level after enactment of 2012 RDL and RD and their impact on access to general healthcare and HIV services among undocumented immigrants.

Methods: We reviewed documents published by the governments of seven ACs (Andalucía, Aragón, Euskadi (Basque Country), Castilla-La Mancha, Galicia, Madrid, Valencia) from April 2012 to July 2018, describing circumstances under which undocumented immigrants would be able to access free healthcare services.

SARS-CoV-2 currently represents a serious global public health problem. Non-pharmaceutical intervention measures (NPIs) have been widely adopted, and the testing strategy since the beginning of the infection is the most effective tool for tracking, isolating, and minimizing transmission. The high operating costs and the need for sophisticated instrumentation related to gold standard diagnostic for COVID-19, Reverse Transcription quantitative Polymerase Chain Reaction (RT-qPCR), have highlighted the urgency and importance of developing and applying new diagnostic techniques, especially in places with scarce resources.

Article Synopsis
  • Patellar chondropathy is common, especially in people under 50, females, athletes, and those who are overweight, with symptoms like pain, limited mobility, and joint instability.
  • Traditional treatments like anti-inflammatories and physiotherapy often yield unsatisfactory results for these patients.
  • Hyaluronic acid (HA) is a safe and effective conservative treatment for patellar chondropathy, potentially improving joint function and reducing pain by enhancing the quality of synovial fluid and modulating inflammation.

Critical care outreach teams were developed in the UK from the early 2000s onwards in response to evidence that the management of severely ill patients on hospital wards before admission to the intensive care unit was frequently suboptimal. Most hospitals in the UK have some form of CCOT, which is usually composed of senior nurses with extensive critical care experience. One of the goals of CCOTs is to provide educational support to staff to enhance their skills at recognising and managing deteriorating patients.
