  • Mandibular segment loss due to tumors or infections can lead to issues with chewing, swallowing, speech, and facial appearance, necessitating reconstructive surgery.
  • A study involving reconstructive surgery on 6 patients (averaging a follow-up of 11.6 years) utilized low-cost fibula and scapula free flaps for mandibular reconstruction.
  • Results showed all patients had successful reconstructive outcomes, with restored dental function and aesthetics, no tumor recurrences, and improved facial symmetry through long-term bone remodeling.

A double-lip is an anomaly which may be either congenital or acquired and may occur either isolated or as a component of Ascher's syndrome. The upper lip is involved more often than the lower, although on occasion both may be involved. Apart from a deformity that interferes with mastication and speech, surgical treatment may be indicated for cosmetic reasons.
