Background: 3D printing has been used in different medical contexts, although it is underutilised in paediatrics. We present the first use of 3D printing in the management of three paediatric patients with complex renovascular disease.

Methods: Patient-specific 3D models were produced from conventional 2D imaging and manufactured using 3D polyjet printing technology.

Article Synopsis
  • The study analyzed the impact of kidney transplant size relative to the recipient's body surface area index (BSAi) on outcomes in pediatric patients using data from over 14,000 single-kidney transplants.
  • Results showed no significant differences in rates of delayed graft function or primary non-function between different donor sizes, but larger donor kidneys (BSAi > 2) demonstrated better graft survival rates.
  • The findings suggest that while size mismatch does not affect short-term transplant function, using a kidney from a donor more than twice the size of the pediatric recipient significantly enhances long-term graft survival.

Renal artery aneurysmal (RAA) disease is a rare, but potentially life-threatening cause of renovascular disease presenting with hypertension. Conventional management involves aneurysmal excision followed by renal auto-transplantation. We present the management of a 13-year-old girl with complex multiple saccular aneurysmal disease of the left renal artery with hilar extension and symptomatic hypertension.
