An ever-increasing number of applications of oxide aerogels places a high demand on wettability-tuning techniques. This work explores the possibility to cheaply prepare GeO aerogels with controlled wettability by an ambient pressure drying (APD) method. GeO aerogels are prepared via two synthetic routes.

A series of silica-based aerogels comprising novel bifunctional chelating ligands was prepared. To produce target aerogels, two aminosilanes, namely (3-aminopropyl)trimethoxysilane (APTMS) and -(2-aminoethyl)-3-aminopropyltrimethoxysilane (AEAPTMS), were acylated by natural amino acids (()-(+)-2-phenylglycine or -phenylalanine), followed by gelation and supercritical drying (SCD). Lithium tetrachloropalladate was used as the metal ion source to prepare strong complexes of Pd with amino acids covalently bonded to a silica matrix.

The enzyme-like activity of metal oxide nanoparticles is governed by a number of factors, including their size, shape, surface chemistry and substrate affinity. For CeO nanoparticles, one of the most prominent inorganic nanozymes that have diverse enzymatic activities, the size effect remains poorly understood. The low-temperature hydrothermal treatment of ceric ammonium nitrate aqueous solutions made it possible to obtain CeO aqueous sols with different particle sizes (2.

The chemical immobilization of cobalt(II) ions in a silica aerogel matrix enabled the synthesis of the first representative example of aerogel-based single-ion magnets. For the synthesis of the lyogels, methyl-trimethoxysilane and N-3-(trimethoxysilyl)propyl ethylenediamine were co-hydrolyzed, then the ethylenediamine groups that were immobilized on the silica matrix enabled the subsequent binding of cobalt(II) ions. Lyogels with various amounts of ethylenediamine moieties (0.

A semi-automated diffusion-dialysis purification procedure is proposed for the preparation of uncontaminated graphene oxide (GO) aqueous dispersions. The purification process is integrated with analytical-signal processing to control the purification degree online by several channels: oxidation-reduction potential, conductivity, and absorbance. This approach reduces the amounts of reagents for chemical treatment during dialysis.

The aim of the study is to investigate the influence of the solvents applied both in sol-gel process and for supercritical drying (SCD) on NiO aerogels' properties. NiO aerogels were synthesized using methanol and 2-methoxy-ethanol (MeGl) as sol solvents. SCD was performed using iso-propanol, methanol and tert-butyl-methyl ether as supercritical fluids.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates the removal of acidic sulfur compounds like hydrogen sulfide and alkanethiols from gasoline-like mixtures using various metal acetates and organic ligands on silica gel under ultrasonic treatment.
  • The research finds that the effectiveness of adsorption is influenced by factors such as the pore size of silica gel, treatment duration, and the type of metal complex used.
  • The best sulfur removal rates (96% and 95%) were achieved with silica gel modified with zinc pivalate and cobalt pivalate, respectively, leading to a proposed waste-free method for producing useful ZnS during desulfurization.
