Biomarker changes in suspected idiopathic normal-pressure hydrocephalus patients undergoing external lumbar drainage: a pilot study.

Aim: To examine whether changes in biomarker concentrations in patients with idiopathic normal-pressure hydrocephalus (iNPH) during 72 h of external lumbar drainage (ELD) can differentiate between responders and non-responders.

Methods: Twenty patients with clinical and neuroradiological signs of iNPH underwent ELD over a period of 72 h. During this period, changes in cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) concentrations of biomarkers (amyloid-β, total and phosphorylated tau proteins) and intracranial pressure were monitored, and the volume of drained CSF was measured.

Gamma knife thalamotomy in treating refractory tremor: initial clinical experience in Croatia.

Tremor refractory to pharmacological therapy significantly reduces the patient´s quality of life, often leading to early retirement and social isolation. Gamma knife (GK) stereotactic radiosurgery of the unilateral thalamic ventral intermediate nucleus is an advanced, minimally invasive surgical procedure for symptomatic tremor suppression. Due to the restricted availability of this type of treatment, literature data on its efficacy and safety are lacking.

Cervical Disk Replacement With Discover Versus Fusion in a Single-Level Cervical Disk Disease: A Prospective Single-Center Randomized Trial With a Minimum 2-Year Follow-up.

Objective: To compare the clinical outcome after Discover arthroplasty versus anterior cervical discectomy and fusion (ACDF) in patients treated for symptomatic single-level cervical disk disease.

Hydroxyapatite ceramics in multilevel cervical interbody fusion - is there a role?

The aim of this study is to evaluate the efficacy of hydroxyapatite grafts in multilevel cervical interbody fusion during the one year follow-up. A total of 86 patients with degenerative cervical disc disease underwent all together 224 cervical interbody fusion procedures in which either Smith-Robinson or Cloward type hydroxyapatite grafts were used. The surgeries included radiculopathy in 38 cases, myelopathy in 20 cases and myeloradicuopathy in 28 patients.
