In this paper, we show the possibility of creating and identifying the features of an artificial neural network (ANN), which consists of mathematical models of biological neurons. The FitzHugh-Nagumo (FHN) system is used as a paradigmatic model demonstrating basic neuron activities. First, in order to reveal how biological neurons can be embedded within an ANN, we train the ANN with nonlinear neurons to solve a basic image recognition problem with an MNIST database; next, we describe how FHN systems can be introduced into this trained ANN.

The lymphatic drainage system of the brain (LDSB) is the removal of metabolites and wastes from its tissues. A dysfunction of LDSB is an important sign of aging, brain oncology, the Alzheimer's and Parkinson's diseases. The development of new strategies for diagnosis of LDSB injuries can improve prevention of age-related cerebral amyloid angiopathy, neurodegenerative and cerebrovascular diseases.

For universality in the approach, it is customary to appropriately rescale problems to a single or a set of dimensionless equations with dimensionless quantities involved or to rescale the experimental setup to a suitable size for the laboratory conditions. Theoretical results and/or experimental findings are supposed to be valid for both the original and the rescaled problems. Here, however, we show in an analog computer model nonlinear system how the experimental results depend on the scale factor.

Many neuro-degenerative diseases are difficult to diagnose in their early stages. For example, early diagnosis of Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI) requires a wide variety of tests to distinguish MCI symptoms and normal consequences of aging. In this article, we use the wavelet-skeleton approach to find some characteristic patterns in the electroencephalograms (EEGs) of healthy adult patients and patients with cognitive dysfunctions.

The article presents the results of a retrospective analysis of 200 patients with hematogenous osteomyelitis of the spine who were treated in the Tyumen Regional Clinical Hospital #2. Neurological disorders were present in 37 patients (group I); 163 patients (group II) had no neurological disorders; according to CT and MRI, secondary spondylogenic epidural abscess was diagnosed in 24 patients. At admission, the severity of neurological deficit assessed using the Frankel scale was as follows: Grade A - 6 cases, Grade B - 7 cases, Grade C - 17 cases, Grade D - 5 cases, and Grade E - 2 cases (epidural abscess without neurological deficit).

Purpose: The relevance of the problem is caused by an increase in the number of spine-related diseases among children, including scoliosis. Currently, there are no methodologies for the treatment of scoliosis, which ensure an unambiguous positive result. The purpose of the article is to justify the spinal model as an elastic viscoplastic body for further mathematical modeling of the process of spine correction and search for its optimal conditions.

Biochemical consequences of mutational damage to common components of the Erwinia phosphoenolpyruvate-dependent phosphotransferase system (the HPr protein and enzyme I) were studied. The transport of glucose, mannose, fructose, and mannitol in Erwinia was shown to require a preliminary induction of proteins of the phosphotransferase system. A drastic decrease in the rate of the transport of these carbohydrates was observed in ptsI and ptsH mutants.

The structural transformations of C1q-protein induced by the UV-light at doses 151 and 2265 J/m2 has been determined by means of acid-basic titration, IR- ans UV-spectrophotometry. These transformations are stipulated by unfolding of its molecules without change of the secondary structure types ratio and accompanies by exposition on aromatic amino acid residues as well as glutamine and asparagine acids, lysine, hydroxylysine and cysteine on the globule surface. The correlation between structural photomodifications and processes of functional activation of C1q has been established.

Mutants without pseudo-HPr activity intrinsic to the H domain of the FruB protein were obtained in Escherichia coli K12 through insertional mutagenesis by means of the MudIlac phage and TnPhoA transposon. For isolating these mutants, double mutants of enteric bacterium (ptsH fruR of ptsH fruS) were used as original strains. These double mutants were inactive with respect to the total HPr protein of the phosphoenolpyruvate-carbohydrate phosphotransferase system and could not provide constitutive synthesis of fructose-specific proteins of this system.
