Association between Current Substance Use, Healthy Behaviors, and Depression among Ukrainian College Students.

Depression is a pervasive issue among college students worldwide, yet there is a significant gap in the literature regarding its prevalence and coping strategies in the Ukrainian context. The present study aims to fill this gap by investigating how substance use and health-promoting behaviors relate to depressive symptoms among Ukrainian college students. Health-promoting behaviors are an important strategy to prevent depression, whereas substance use can contribute to depression or make it harder to manage.

Parenting practices, bullying perpetration, and conduct problems among Ukrainian children.

Background: Positive and consistent parenting practices are associated with the positive mental health of children. However, little is understood about the implications of the Russian military invasion on family dynamics in Ukraine.

Objective: This research aims to estimate the prevalence of childhood conduct disorder (CD) and bullying perpetration and their association with parenting practices among Ukrainian children living in proximity to the war.

[Study of phototrophic purple bacterium Rhodobacter sphaeroides cell morphology of wild-type and ipt-transformant by atomic force and electron microscopy].

A comparative study of phototrophic purple bacterium Rhodobacter sphaeroides cell morphology of wild-type and ipt-transformant was done by atomic force and electron microscopy. It was shown that transformation led to a decrease in the number or total disappearance of the flagella, as well as to changes in the structure of the outer membrane of the bacteria cell wall. On the wild-type cell surface phage-like structures were found, and in transformed cells at their places hollows were identified.

[Autoimmune mechanisms of ovarian pathology].

[Production of immunoregulatory cytokines in autoimimune damage of the ovaries in mammals].

Several ovarian disorders in women are associated with autoimmune factors. In this study it was investigated a level of cytokines--TNF-alpha and IFNs in ovarian homogenate and blood serum at ovarian autoimmune damage of mammals. [Analysis of DNA excreted from the body as an approach to diagnosis and monitoring tumor growth].

Proceeding from their early data showing that some portion of DNA originating from apoptotic cells can enter the blood stream and pass through the renal barrier by preserving its template capabilities, the authors analyzed urine DNA from 29 patients with colorectal cancer. PCR was used to compare DNA samples from the normal mucosa surrounding the tumor and from the urine collected just prior to surgery. Six microsatellite loci were studied with oligonucleotide primers.

[Metabolic and structural properties of extrachromosomal DNA in mammalian cells].

Discrete bands of free DNAs of approximately 25 kbp were detected in human cell cultures. According to electrophoretic shifts induced by single and double strand breaks, they from topological isoforms (supercoiled, open, and linear). Long-term labeling (24 h) of growing and quiescent cultured cells by [3H]thymidine indicates differences of free versus chromosomal DNAs including (i) significantly lower specific radioactivity in growing cells, (ii) higher specific radioactivity in quiescent cells, and (iii) resistance to fluorodeoxyuridine labeling.

[The clinico-laboratory characteristics of errors in the diagnosis of chronic gastritis].

The authors analyze results of a study of 100 patients with chronic gastritis showing secretory insufficiency with a dubious diagnosis. Endoscopy and intragastric pH-metry were used. The diagnosis of chronic gastritis was confirmed in 35 patients and of them with secretory insufficiency only in 21 patients that evidences inadequate attention to the complaints, anamnesis, incomplete examination and use of laboratory and other data.

[The use of monoclonal antibodies with human IgE for determining the level of allergen-specific IgE].

The possibility of using monoclonal antibodies to human IgE, obtained in our laboratory, with the aim to determine allergen-specific IgE in the radioallergosorbent test (RAST), the enzyme immunoassay and the radioimmunoassay has been studied. The results obtained with the use of the standard RAST system (manufactured by Pharmacia, Sweden) and different variants of assay based on the use of our antibodies, labeled with 125I or conjugated with peroxidase, and timothy pollen allergen (obtained from the Stavropol Research Institute for Vaccines and Sera) have been compared. The best results have been obtained with anti-IgE antibodies 11-2, but for working out our assay systems it is necessary to develop our own standards and control limits.

[Monoclonal antibody-based immunoenzyme test system for determining the total immunoglobulin E level of children and adolescents].

Enzyme immunoassay for determination of total immunoglobulin E in children and adolescents based on combination of two monoclonal antibodies with high affinity and specificity to different epitopes of IgE molecule has been developed. Monoclonal antibodies IgE/11-4 are used for sensitization of a solid phase (96-well plate), mcAB IgE/11-1 conjugated with horseradish peroxidase are used as a developing reagent. The following analytical characteristics of a test-system are established: range of assay--1-100 IU/ml sensitivity--1 IU/ml; time of analysis--1.

[Determination of phenathrene-9,10-epoxidase in the liver microsomes of rats. The effect of induction on the activity of the enzyme].

A new method for determination of the activity of phenanthrene-9,10-epoxidase, one of the monoxygenases of the system of drug metabolism, in rat liver microsomes was developed. The method includes the use of phenanthrene as substrate. The rate of the substrate epoxidation is measured with the help of HPLC reverse phase in accordance with the method of the internal standard (1-naphthol) by 9,10-dihydroxy-9,10-dihydrophenanthrene, a product of the intermediate epoxide hydrolysis.
