Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to assess how three-dimensional (3D) modeling of MRI images affects positive surgical margins (PSM) in patients undergoing radical retropubic prostatectomy (RRP).
  • A total of 81 patients were split into two groups: one group used 3D modeling to guide surgery, while the other relied on traditional evaluations of MRI scans.
  • Results showed that the 3D group had a significantly lower PSM rate (14.6%) compared to the non-3D group (45%), highlighting the benefits of 3D modeling and collaboration between radiologists and surgeons for better surgical outcomes.

Purpose: To evaluate the diagnostic efficacy of apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) measurements and semi-quantitative dynamic contrast enhancement (DCE) parameters in predicting the differentiation between low- and high-grade tumors in non-muscle invasive bladder cancers (NMIBC).

Methods: Patients with NMIBC, who were histopathologically confirmed between August 2020 and July 2023, were analyzed by 2 radiologists with different levels of experience. DCE semi-quantitative parameters such as wash-in rate (WiR), wash-out ratio (WoR), time to peak (TTP), and peak enhancement (PE) were calculated.

Aim: To evaluate the effect of 5 alpha-reductase inhibitor (5-ARI) treatment on prostate cancer detection by multiparametric magnetic resonance imaging (mpMRI).

Methods: We retrospectively collected data on 429 patients who underwent mpMRI before prostate biopsy in the Urology Department of Giresun University Training and Research Hospital between March 2018 and December 2021. The patients were categorized as those who had never been treated with 5-ARI (n=359) and those who were treated with 5-ARI for more than six months (n=70).

Article Synopsis
  • Carbamoyl phosphate synthetase 1 (CPS-1) deficiency is a rare urea cycle disorder affecting approximately 1 in 150,000-200,000 newborns, often causing severe hyperammonemia shortly after protein intake, leading to high mortality rates in early-onset cases.
  • A case study of a newborn male with elevated ammonia levels due to CPS-1 deficiency shows he received urgent treatments, including dextrose infusion, ammonia-scavenging therapy, peritoneal dialysis, and ultimately, a liver transplant from his father at six months of age.
  • The study highlights the potential benefits of liver transplantation in CPS-1 deficiency cases and suggests that carglumic acid could improve long-term

Coronary artery fistulas (CAFs) are abnormal communications of coronary arteries whereby venous circuits bypass the normal capillaries within the myocardium. Coronary artery-to-cardiac vein fistula is the third most common type of CAF, accounting for 7% of cases. Electrocardiographic-gated cardiac computed tomographic (CT) angiography has emerged as a noninvasive alternative method of choice for diagnosis due to its high spatial and temporal resolution and short acquisition time.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to evaluate the effects of acetylsalicylic acid (ASA) and ultrasound elastography on testicular torsion in rats.
  • Six groups of rats were used, including control and various torsion/detorsion timelines, with ASA administered to some groups before inducing testicular torsion.
  • Results indicated that ASA treatment did not effectively improve testicular health post-torsion, while elastography provided useful data on testicular volume and stiffness over time.

: Synthetic cannabinoids are drugs whose use has increased significantly in recent years and whose toxicological effects cannot be ignored. Chronic inflammatory processes such as vasculitis that may be caused by these substances pose serious health problems at all ages.

Purpose: This study compared the predictive performance of the relative enhancement index (REI) derived from gadoxetic acid (GA)-enhanced MRI with that of the functional liver imaging score (FLIS) in estimating liver function among patients with chronic liver disease (CLD) or liver cirrhosis (LC) by validating them with the albumin-bilirubin (ALBI) grade.

Materials And Methods: We retrospectively examined 166 patients (79 women, 87 men; 57.4 years) who were diagnosed with LC or CLD and underwent GA-enhanced MRI between August 2020 and September 2023.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to evaluate how effective multiparametric magnetic resonance imaging (mp-MRI) is in diagnosing granulomatous prostatitis in patients receiving BCG treatment for bladder cancer.
  • Ten male patients were observed before and after BCG treatment, assessing factors like prostate-specific antigen (PSA) levels, digital rectal examination (DRE) results, and mp-MRI findings.
  • Results showed a significant increase in PSA levels and abnormal DRE findings after BCG treatment, suggesting that elevated PSA and abnormal MRI results may indicate granulomatous prostatitis, potentially reducing the need for unnecessary biopsies.

Purpose: To determine the prevalence of incidentally detected bladder cancers (BCs) on multiparametric magnetic resonance imaging (mpMRI) of the prostate and to highlight the clinical importance of scoring them according to the Vesical Imaging-Reporting and Data System (VI-RADS).

Materials And Methods: VI-RADS scores for incidental bladder lesions on mpMRI of the prostate were collected in 1693 patients with elevated prostate-specific antigen but no hematuria. The study included 19 patients with 28 incidental bladder lesions.

Background: The definition of oligometastasis is still controversial. Cytoreductive nephrectomy and metastasectomy are important approaches in selected patients with oligometastasis for improving survival. We aimed to present our laparoscopic metastasectomy experience in a rare case of contralateral adrenal metastasis in an oligometastatic kidney tumor.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigated CT scan findings related to injuries from the 2023 Turkey-Syria earthquake, focusing on their types and distribution among adults.
  • A total of 768 adult cases were analyzed, classifying injuries into six categories while considering age groups and time intervals post-earthquake.
  • Results showed a notable occurrence of head injuries (14.2%), with spinal injuries being more common in individuals over 65, while abdominal injuries were less frequent overall.

Background: The expanded polytetrafluoroethylene (ePTFE) grafts are used to drain anterior sector veins during the living donor liver transplantation procedure. We aimed to analyze the potentially life-threatening complications, such as the infection and migration of ePTFE grafts.

Methods: A total of 1264 liver transplantations (LTs) were performed for 1097 adult and 167 pediatric liver failure cases.

Purpose: To assess the diagnostic performance of biparametric magnetic resonance imaging (bp-MRI) in predicting detrusor muscle invasion for bladder cancer (BC) located at the ureteral orifice by comparing it with the Vesical Imaging Reporting and Data System (VI-RADS) system based on multiparametric MRI (mp-MRI).

Methods: Patients with histopathologically proven BC located at the ureteral orifice from December 2019 to November 2022 were analyzed retrospectively. Two sets, bp-MRI (set 1) and mp-MRI (set 2), were formed from the images.
