Purpose: To determine the prevalence of cerebrotendinous xanthomatosis (CTX) in patients with idiopathic bilateral juvenile cataract in Turkey.

Methods: In this multicenter, epidemiologic observational study, patients with idiopathic bilateral juvenile cataract (aged ≥1 year at study entry) were identified from the records of 31 ophthalmology clinics. The Mignarri suspicion index determined in all potential CTX patients; blood samples were collected, and genetic testing for CYP27A1 gene mutation was performed.

Due to the lack of comprehensive surveillance data representing Turkey, the authors aimed to derive information by panoramically reviewing all articles related to invasive meningococcal disease (IMD) published in the last 40 years. The following databases were reviewed: Ulakbim (the national database), BIOSIS Previews (from 1995), Evidence-Based Medicine Reviews-Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews (from 2005), Embase (from 1996), Ovid MEDLINE(R) (from 1946) and Journals@Ovid Full Text (2014). Twenty-seven articles, 10 published in international journals and 17 in national journals, were identified.

Introduction: Intanza(®)/IDflu(®) (Sanofi Pasteur SA, Lyon, France), a split-virion, trivalent influenza vaccine delivered by intradermal injection with a microinjection system, became available in adults 18-59 years of age (9 μg) and ≥60 years of age (15 μg) as of the 2010/2011 northern hemisphere influenza season.

Methods: This study assessed the acceptability of intradermal vaccination with Intanza/IDflu in routine clinical practice in adult vaccinees and their vaccine prescribers. Vaccine prescribers and adults who had elected to be vaccinated with Intanza/IDflu during the 2010/2011 northern hemisphere influenza season were recruited to complete surveys about their opinions of influenza vaccination and their acceptance of the intradermal vaccination.

Pneumococcal infections have a substantial burden in Turkey, particularly in the elderly (> 60 years) and at-risk adults (18-59 years). VCR are low at approximately 2%.
