Objectives: The aim of the study was to assess the diagnosis and evolution of low anterior rectal resection syndrome (LARS) in patients admitted to a tertiary surgical center in Romania.
Materials And Methods: From 120 patients initially included in the analysis, after applying the exclusion criteria, we selected 102 patients diagnosed and operated on for neoplasm of the upper, middle, and lower rectum for which resection and excision (partial or total) of mesorectum was associated. All the patients we treated in the general surgery department of the County Emergency Hospital of Craiova within a time frame of 5 years (1 October 2017-1 September 2022), and all experienced at least one symptom associated with LARS.
Integrating digital pathology (DP) and artificial intelligence (AI) algorithms can potentially improve diagnostic practice and precision medicine. Developing reliable, generalizable, and comparable AI algorithms depends on access to meticulously annotated data. However, achieving this requires robust collaboration among pathologists, computer scientists and other researchers to ensure data quality and consistency.

This disease represents one of the topics of great interest in the medical world of the last two decades. In our study, we tried to underline the importance of an adapted recovery program based on physical exercise for regaining clinical and functional status in patients with age-related sarcopenia.

NIHF refers specifically to cases where maternal antibodies against red blood cell antigens are excluded. Early identification of the underlying causes is essential for managing pregnancy and deciding on treatment.

Small bowel cancer is very rare; although the incidence of adenocarcinoma and other anatomopathological forms has increased recently, the diagnosis and treatment of this disease are still debatable because of the clinical heterogeneity and the absence of studies including a large number of patients. We performed a retrospective study over 10 years in which we analyzed the clinical, imaging, and anatomopathological data of 46 patients hospitalized in a surgery clinic and diagnosed with small bowel cancer (duodenum, jejunum, and ileum). After clinical assessment of these patients, including complications (occlusion, bleeding, and perforation), the CT scan established the diagnosis in over 90% of the cases of the complicated form of the disease.

Neuropeptides, such as substance P and calcitonin gene-related peptide, play the neurotransmitter and neurohormone roles that increase tumor invasiveness and metastasis potential. This study aimed to see whether these neuropeptides and their receptors-neurokinin 1 receptor and calcitonin receptor-like receptor-correlate with the diagnosis stage, tumor differentiation grade, and different patient characteristics in colorectal cancer and also to compare them.

Materials And Methods: Study group included teeth dental pulp from 45 cases with occlusal dysfunction, subsequently divided into two subgroups: 24 cases with abrasion (AB) and 21 cases without abrasion (NONAB). The set of morphological parameters of dental pulp were thicknesses of the outer layer, inner layer and entire peripheral pulp zone, the presence of pulpal calcifications and their extent within the dental pulp, the presence of interstitial fibrosis and its extent within the dental pulp and the vascular density (VD) of pulpal capillary network.
Introduction: Histological grading of cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma (cSCC) is crucial for prognosis and treatment decisions, but manual grading is subjective and time-consuming.
Aim: This study aimed to develop and validate a deep learning (DL)-based model for automated cSCC grading, potentially improving diagnostic accuracy (ACC) and efficiency.
Materials And Methods: Three deep neural networks (DNNs) with different architectures (AlexNet, GoogLeNet, ResNet-18) were trained using transfer learning on a dataset of 300 histopathological images of cSCC.
Radiation delivery at ultrahigh dose rates (UHDRs) has potential for use as a new anticancer therapeutic strategy. The FLASH effect induced by UHDR irradiation has been shown to maintain antitumour efficacy with a reduction in normal tissue toxicity; however, the FLASH effect has been difficult to demonstrate in vitro. The objective to demonstrate the FLASH effect in vitro is challenging, aiming to reveal a differential response between cancer and normal cells to further identify cell molecular mechanisms.

This kind of reaction, in addition to the altered reaction to catecholamines, has the potential to significantly affect the immune system of the mother and the patients' general postoperative course. This prospective study compared the plasma levels of catecholamines and cytokines in healthy pregnant patients having cesarean sections under spinal anesthesia versus general anesthesia.

The development of new diagnostic and prognostic markers, as well as new therapeutic methods, is necessary. The calcitonin gene-related peptide (CGRP) neuropeptide alongside its receptor calcitonin receptor-like receptor (CRLR) could represent future biomarkers and a potential therapeutic target.

The last decade is characterized through an increased interest in using a non-specific, simply and readily available marker of inflammation-neutrophil to lymphocyte ratio (NLR)-to predict various chronic diseases (gastrointestinal and colorectal cancers, lung cancer, cardiovascular events, sarcoidosis, arthritis). The aim of our study is to establish the correlation between NLR and other parameters of clinical and functional status in KOA patients and to compare the NLR values before and after rehabilitation program.

Colorectal cancer (CRC) remains one of the most important global health problems, being in the top 3 neoplasms in terms of the number of cases worldwide. Although CRC develops predominantly from the adenoma-adenocarcinoma sequence through APC gene mutations, in recent years, studies have demonstrated the role of chronic inflammation in this neoplasia pathogenesis. Cytokines are important components of chronic inflammation, being some of the host regulators in response to inflammation.

Materials And Methods: Study groups included 25 cases died of a vascular disease (V_P), 37 cases died of a non-vascular disease (NV_P) and 28 cases died of a violent/suspect non-pathological cause of death (V_Dth), the latter group representing also the control group. Four aortic cross-sections (base, arch, thoracic, and abdominal regions) were collected during autopsy from the selected cases, fixed in 10% buffered formalin and first of all photographed together with a calibrating ruler.

Objective: Endometrial polyps (EPs) are one of the most common pathologies detected during the examination of the uterine cavity of infertile women. We aimed to demonstrate the relationship between EPs, chronic endometritis (CE) and in vitro fertilization (IVF) outcomes.
Patients And Methods: This retrospective study was performed on 394 hysteroscopically examined infertility cases.
Objective: Evaluation of Intraplacental Villous Artery Doppler (IPVA) as a predictive factor compared to umbilical artery (UA) Doppler in placenta-mediated disease (PMD).
Methods: This prospective study included a group of 106 pregnant women, of which 76 patients constituted the PMD group: preeclampsia (PE) and small for gestational age (SGA), and 30 pregnant women constituted the control group. IPVA and UA Doppler evaluation was performed in 2 pregnancy periods: 20.
Unlabelled: Placenta-mediated pregnancy disorders represent a disease that includes preeclampsia (PE) and the birth of small for gestational age (SGA) children, these conditions increase the risk of mortality and morbidity both maternal and fetal/neonatal, in the short and long-term.
Methods: The prospective study included 106 patients in whom ultrasound Doppler scans of uterine artery (UtA) were performed in the 2nd trimester between 20.0-23.
Cerebrovascular accidents (CVA)-strokes represent a major public health problem worldwide, due to the large number of people affected. The aim of this paper is to emphasize the importance and necessity of a "team time out" as well as the implementation of a customized "checklist" before the actual procedure. We developed and implemented a checklist for the safe conduct of endoscopies and for the entire team to thoroughly know about the patient's medical history.
