Background: Cholangiocarcinoma (CCA) represents a global health challenge, with rising incidence and mortality rates. This study aimed to elucidate the clinical course and practices of CCA in Latin America.

Methods: This observational cohort study investigated individuals diagnosed with CCA between 2010 and 2023 at five referral centres across Latin America.

Progressive accumulation of α-Synuclein (αSyn) in Lewy bodies (LBs) and loss of dopaminergic (DA) neurons are the hallmark pathological features of Parkinson's disease (PD). Although currently available in vitro and in vivo models have provided crucial information about PD pathogenesis, the mechanistic link between the progressive accumulation of αSyn into LBs and the loss of DA neurons is still unclear. To address this, it is critical to model LB formation and DA neuron loss, the two key neuropathological aspects of PD, in a relevant in vitro system.

What Makes a Beautiful Buttock Beautiful? A Case-Control Study Comparing Buttocks Models versus Normal Women by Magnetic Resonance Imaging, Photography and Anthropometry.

Objectives: To describe characteristics of women with aesthetically ideal buttocks and differentiate them from women with normal buttocks.

Methods: Case-control study comparing anatomy of women with ideal buttocks (buttocks models) to women with normal buttocks using magnetic resonance images, anthropometric measurements and photography.

Results: Comparing to normal women, buttocks models have a narrower waist, narrower iliac crest, wider C point, wider hips and bigger and thicker gluteus maximus muscle (GMM).

Inhibition of the 3-hydroxy-3-methyl-glutaryl-CoA reductase diminishes the survival and size of chondrocytes during orofacial morphogenesis in zebrafish.

Objectives: The 3-hydroxy-3-methyl-glutaryl-CoA reductase (HMGCR) is the enzyme controlling the rate-limiting step in the synthesis of cholesterol, sterols, and isoprenoids in the mevalonate biosynthetic pathway. Impaired function of HMGCR in zebrafish produces craniofacial malformations and orofacial cleft, mainly affecting the post-migratory neural crest cells with little earlier effect. Here we investigate morphogenetic and cellular mechanisms underlying the generation of these malformations.

Severe respiratory alkalosis is a life-threatening condition, as it induces hypo- calcaemia and extreme adrenergic sensitivity leading to cerebral and myocardial vasoconstriction. We report a 37-year-old woman with previous consultations for a conversion disorder. While she was infected with SARS-CoV-2 (without pulmonary involvement), she consulted in the emergency room due to panic attacks.

Intensive hands-on microsurgery course provides a solid foundation for performing clinical microvascular surgery.

Purpose: Microvascular surgery requires highly specialized and individualized training; most surgical residency training programs are not equipped with microsurgery teaching expertise and/or facilities. The aim of this manuscript was to describe the methodology and clinical effectiveness of an international microsurgery course, currently taught year-round in eight countries.

Methods: In the 5-day microsurgery course trainees perform arterial and venous end-to-end, end-to-side, one-way-up, and continuous suture anastomoses and vein graft techniques in live animals, supported by video demonstrations and hands-on guidance by a full-time instructor.

A Pilot Educational Intervention to Support Primary Care Provider Performance of Skin Cancer Examinations.

Educational interventions to support Primary Care Provider (PCP) performance of skin cancer examinations typically train PCPs to "triage and refer," an approach that may result in diagnostic delays in regions without appropriate access to dermatology care. To address the needs of PCPs and patients in regions without appropriate access to dermatology care, we developed a multi-faceted pilot intervention, including a curriculum and telementoring, designed to support PCP performance of skin cancer detection examinations. Our intervention offers two levels of proficiency: "triage and refer" and "diagnose and manage.

Antibody-Peptide Epitope Conjugates for Personalized Cancer Therapy.

Unlabelled: Antibody-peptide epitope conjugates (APEC) are a new class of modified antibody-drug conjugates that redirect T-cell viral immunity against tumor cells. APECs contain a tumor-specific protease cleavage site linked to a patient-specific viral epitope, resulting in presentation of viral epitopes on cancer cells and subsequent recruitment and killing by CD8+ T cells. Here we developed an experimental pipeline to create patient-specific APECs and identified new preclinical therapies for ovarian carcinoma.

Protocol for controlled cortical impact in human cerebral organoids to model traumatic brain injury.

Modeling traumatic brain injury (TBI) has been a challenge. Rodent and cellular models have provided relevant contributions despite their limitations. Here, we present a protocol for a TBI model based on the controlled cortical impact (CCI) performed on human cerebral organoids (COs), self-assembled 3D cultures that recapitulate features of the human brain.

The southernmost portion of the Liquiñe-Ofqui fault zone (LOFZ) lies within the proposed slab window which formed due to oblique subduction of the Chile Ridge in Patagonia. Mapping of paleo-surface ruptures, offsets, and lithological separations along the master fault allowed us to constrain geologic slip rates for the first time with dextral rates of 11.6-24.
