Due to rapidly falling costs, whole genome sequencing (WGS) is becoming an essential tool in the surveillance of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) in Salmonella enterica. Although there have been many recent works evaluating the accuracy of WGS in predicting AMR from a large number of Salmonella isolates, little attention has been devoted to deciphering the underlying causes of disagreement between the WGS genotype and experimentally determined AMR phenotype. This study analyzed the genomes of six S.

Utilization of algicidal bacteria as a biological agent have been receiving significant interest for controlling harmful algal blooms. While various algicidal bacterial strains have been identified, limited studies have explored the influence of bacterial culture conditions on its algicidal activity. Here, the effect of oxygen on the algicidal activity of a novel bacterium JK12, against a model diatom, Phaeodactylum tricornutum (P.

Biofilms and the rapid evolution of multidrug resistance complicate the treatment of bacterial infections. Antibiofilm agents such as metallic-inorganic nanoparticles or peptides act by exerting antibacterial effects and, hence, do not combat biofilms of antibiotics-resistant strains. In this Letter, we show that the block copolymer DA95B5, dextran- block-poly((3-acrylamidopropyl) trimethylammonium chloride (AMPTMA)- co-butyl methacrylate (BMA)), effectively removes preformed biofilms of various clinically relevant multidrug-resistant Gram-positive bacteria including methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA), vancomycin-resistant Enterococci (VRE V583), and Enteroccocus faecalis (OG1RF).
