Background and Objectives: Different types of anesthetics affect thermoregulatory mechanisms, such as the redistribution of body temperature, loss of skin heat, or inhibition of thermoregulatory vasoconstriction. Therefore, we compared remimazolam with propofol in terms of core body temperature in patients undergoing robotic-assisted and laparoscopic radical prostatectomy. Materials and methods: Ninety patients were randomly assigned to either the propofol−remifentanil (PR) group or the remimazolam−remifentanil (RR) group.

Previous studies reported the impact of intrinsic and extrinsic factors on intraoperative hypothermia. However, no clinical study to date has considered the effects of both the phase of the menstrual cycle (an intrinsic factor) and the fresh gas flow rate (FGF) during anesthesia (an extrinsic factor) on the core body temperature and intraoperative hypothermia. This study is aimed at investigatig the effect of the menstrual cycle phase on intraoperative hypothermia when considering the FGF in patients who underwent laparoscopic gynecologic surgery.

Female reproductive hormones may affect core body temperature. This study aimed to investigate the effects of female reproductive hormones on inadvertent intraoperative hypothermia in patients who underwent laparoscopic gynecologic surgery under general anesthesia. This retrospective study included 660 menstruating and menopausal female patients aged 19-65 years.

Objective: To evaluate the efficacy and safety of low-level light therapy in women with primary dysmenorrhea.

Method: A multicenter prospective, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trial including patients 18-35 years of age with primary dysmenorrhea was undertaken at two university hospitals in South Korea between October 2011 and September 2012. Patients were randomized using a computer-generated sequence to receive low-level light therapy using the Color DNA-WSF device or to receive placebo treatment with a dummy device.

Background: High-dose remifentanil-based anesthesia is associated with opioid-induced hyperalgesia (OIH) and postanesthetic shivering (PAS). These effects can be prevented by N-methyl-d-aspartate (NMDA) receptor antagonists. This study aimed to investigate correlations between OIH and PAS caused by high-dose remifentanil and the effects of low-dose ketamine on OIH and PAS.

The expression levels of Prx1 are frequently elevated in several human cancers, including lung cancer and may confer increased resistance to treatment. In this study, we investigated the role of Prx1 in docetaxel-induced apoptosis in A549 lung cancer cells. To test whether Prx1 knockdown affected the sensitivity of A549 cells to docetaxel treatment, we generated short hairpin RNA (shRNA) constructs targeting Prx1 and analyzed the effect of Prx1 knockdown on growth and apoptosis.

Background: Opioids not only exert an antinociceptive effect, but also modulate central N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) receptors, resulting in hyperalgesia and acute opioid tolerance. This study was aimed to investigate the effect of the NMDA receptor antagonist, magnesium in preventing remifentanil-induced hyperalgesia.

Methods: For this study, 75 patients scheduled for robot-assisted laparoscopic prostatectomy were randomly allocated into three groups of patients whose incision sites were infiltrated: Group M, with 25% magnesium sulfate 80 mg/kg; Group S, with the same volume of saline under remifentanil-based anesthesia, and Group D, with the same volume of saline under desflurane based anesthesia.
