Material And Methods: A guided bone regeneration (GBR) was performed at the buccal aspect of edentulous maxillary alveolar ridges in dogs (n = 5): (1) BHC group, in which rhBMP-2-loaded BHC was covered by a CM, and (2) CM group, in which BHC was covered by an rhBMP-2-loaded CM. A histologic and histometric analysis was performed after 8 weeks of healing.
The objective of this study was to reveal the topography of the mandibular symphysis according to gender and age in the Korean population using computed tomography (CT) to provide a mean anatomical database for the safety zone during block bone harvesting. The following parameters were measured in CT images taken from Korean subjects: interforaminal distance (ID), vertical distance between the inferior mandibular border and the apices of the anterior teeth (VD), and horizontal distance between the labial cortical bone and the apices of the anterior teeth (HD). Differences between genders and among age groups, and the correlations among measurements were analyzed.

Purpose: Prognostic factors for distal bile duct cancer are contentious. This study was conducted to analyze the prognostic factors of distal bile duct cancer after surgery with the aim of identifying those associated with diminished survival.
Methods: Two hundred forty-one patients who underwent pylorus-preserving pancreaticoduodenectomy (PPPD) or Whipple procedure in our tertiary hospital from February 1995 to June 2011 were retrospectively analyzed.
Background: Studies have claimed that in the surgical treatment of pancreas body and tail cancer, radical antegrade modular pancreatosplenectomy (RAMPS) is associated with effective tangential margin and extensive lymph node dissection. In the present study, the authors have compared the surgical outcomes between RAMPS and conventional distal pancreatosplenectomy (DPS) in patients with adenocarcinoma of the pancreas body and tail, and also identified prognostic factors associated with survival after surgery.
Methods: Retrospective review of 92 consecutive patients who underwent surgical resection for pancreas body and tail adenocarcinoma with curative intent between 1995 and 2010.
Background: Statins have potential antineoplastic properties via arrest of cell-cycle progression and induction of apoptosis. A previous study demonstrated in vitro and in vivo antineoplastic synergism between statins and gemcitabine. The present randomized, double-blinded, phase II trial compared the efficacy and safety of gemcitabine plus simvastatin (GS) with those of gemcitabine plus placebo (GP) in patients with locally advanced and metastatic pancreatic cancer.

Four-arm polyethylene glycol (PEG) cross-linked hyaluronic acid (HA) hydrogels containing PEGylated tumor necrosis factor-related apoptosis-inducing ligand (PEG-TRAIL) were fabricated, and their antitumor effects were evaluated in pancreatic cell (Mia Paca-2)-xenografted mice. HA was conjugated with 4-arm PEG(10k)-amine (a cross-linker) at ratios of 100:1 and 100:2 using 1-ethyl-3-(3-dimethylaminopropyl)-carbodiimide hydrochloride as a cross-linker, and TRAIL or PEG-TRAIL was incorporated into these HA hydrogels. HA hydrogels at a 100:1 ratio were prepared in good yields (>88%), were moderately stiff, and gradually released PEG-TRAIL over ~14 days in vitro and over ~7 days in vivo (as determined by high-pressure liquid chromatography and infrared imaging).
