Autoimmune encephalitis (AIE) is a type of immunoreactive encephalitic disorder and is recognized as the most prevalent noninfectious encephalitis. Nevertheless, the rarity of definitive AIE diagnosis through biopsy or autopsy represents a significant hurdle to understanding and managing the disease. In this article, we present the pathological findings of AIE and review the literature based on a distinct case of AIE presenting as CD8+ T-lymphocyte predominant encephalitis.

Accurate brain tumor diagnosis is the first step for healthcare professionals to predict tumor prognosis and establish personalized treatment plans for patients. The methylation classifier can be used to perform classification on tumor samples with diagnostic difficulties due to ambiguous histology or mismatch between histopathology and molecular signatures, i.

Next-generation sequencing (NGS) using a brain tumor-targeted gene panel, methylation profiles, and clinicopathological features were analyzed for O_IDH_mut (n = 74) in 70 patients and for A_IDH_mut (n = 95) in 90 patients. 97.

Psammomatoid JOF (PJOF) in craniofacial structures should be distinguished from other fibro-osseous lesions, such as fibrous dysplasia (FD), considering the difference in the treatment protocols. Here, we present a rare case of PJOF that was initially misdiagnosed as a case of FD and emphasize the importance of considering JOF in the differential diagnosis of patients with craniofacial fibro-osseous lesions.

Nasal dermoid cysts are rare congenital anomalies that affect one in 20,000 to one in 40,000 individuals. Herein, we report a case of an initially misdiagnosed nasal dermoid cyst with intracranial extension. Among nasal dermoids, the lesion of the nasal tip is considered uncommon.

Methods: This study was conducted in two parts: Part I. a preliminary autopsy study that included four autopsy-confirmed patients with synucleinopathy (2 PD, 1 dementia with Lewy bodies [DLB], and 1 multiple system atrophy [MSA]) and two normal autopsy controls.
Background: The objective of this report is to share the clinicopathological features of chemotherapy-induced toxic leukoencephalopathy, which is a rare and under-recognized disease, clinically characterized by rapidly progressive cognitive loss that often leads to sudden death.
Case Presentation: A 64-year-old woman and a 63-year-old man, who had both suffered from a rapid deterioration of consciousness, were autopsied under the clinical impressions of either the central nervous system graft versus host disease (CNS-GVHD), infectious encephalitis, or autoimmune encephalitis. Both patients had been treated with multiple chemotherapy regimens, including adriamycin, cytarabine arabinoside, daunorubicin, fludarabine, azacitidine, and allogeneic peripheral blood stem cell transplantation to treat hematological malignancies (acute myelogenous leukemia and myelodysplastic syndrome).
Objective: This study aimed to evaluate whether a larger tissue volume increases the sensitivity of detecting alpha-synuclein (AS) pathology in the gastrointestinal (GI) tract.
Methods: Nine patients with Parkinson's disease (PD) or idiopathic rapid eye movement sleep disorder (iRBD) who underwent GI operation and had full-depth intestinal blocks were included. All patients were selected from our previous study population.
Angiomatoid fibrous histiocytomas (AFH) is a rare soft tissue tumor of intermediate malignant potential, and its histology is diverse. It can occur in several organs including intracranial and soft tissues. Here, we report two cases of brain parenchymal classic AFH and spinal extramedullary myxoid mesenchymal tumor with clinicopathological and molecular investigations by next-generation sequencing and a comprehensive review.

A thorough analysis of three rare and recently recognized GNTs was performed in the context of clinicopathological features and molecular genetic characterization. The current spinal diffuse leptomeningeal glioneuronal tumor (DLGNT) was characterized with oligodendroglioma-like tumor with chromosome 1p/19q codeletion without IDH mutations and KIAA1549:BRAF fusion.

This epithelial tumor can be categorized as an adamantinomatous craniopharyngioma (ACP) or papillary craniopharyngioma (PCP) subtype with histopathological and genetic differences. Genomic and transcriptomic profiles of craniopharyngiomas have been investigated; however, the proteomic profile has yet to be elucidated and added to these profiles.

It is also associated with neurodegenerative diseases, and its influence differs depending on the isoform. In particular, the ε4 allele of APOE is the highest genetic risk factor for developing late-onset Alzheimer's disease (AD).

We investigated the vimentin expression of diffuse gliomas according to the upcoming 2021 WHO classification, its variations due to mutational status, and its prognostic effects. We analyzed vimentin immunohistochemistry in 315 gliomas: a test set (n = 164) and a validation set (n = 151).

The loss of H3K27me3 expression might predict the early recurrence of grade 1 and 2 meningiomas. However, this is controversial in terms of grade 3 meningioma and the effects of H3K27me3 on the overall survival (OS) of patients with low low-grade meningioma have not been studied.

Background: CDKN2A is a tumor suppressor gene that encodes the cell cycle inhibitor protein p16. Homozygous deletion of the CDKN2A gene has been associated with shortened survival in isocitrate dehydrogenase (IDH)-mutant gliomas. This study aimed to analyze the prognostic value of p16 and to evaluate whether p16 immunohistochemical staining could be used as a prognostic marker to replace CDKN2A genotyping in diffuse gliomas.

This study evaluated the progression of myocardial ischemic injury to establish the safe ischemic time after a single-dose DNC infusion in the human heart using a transmission electron microscope.
Methods: Seven hearts extracted from heart transplant recipients after infusion of 1000 mL single-dose DNC were evaluated.
Adult-onset leukoencephalopathy with axonal spheroids and pigmented glia (ALSP) is a progressive degenerative white matter disorder caused by mutations in the tyrosine kinase domain of the gene. ALSP is often misdiagnosed as other diseases due to its rarity and various clinical presentations such as Parkinsonism, pyramidal signs, cognitive impairment and/or psychiatric symptoms. We describe an autopsy case of ALSP with a mutation.

Ependymomas are categorized according to their locations and genetic abnormalities, and these two parameters are important prognostic factors for patient outcome. Recently, mutations and , and codeletion of 1p/19q are shown to be genetic hallmarks of astrocytic and oligodendroglial tumors, respectively. Subsequent molecular analyses of mixed gliomas preferred the reclassification to either oligodendroglioma or astrocytoma.

Mutations in the telomerase reverse transcriptase gene promoter (TERTp) are common in glioblastomas (GBMs) and oligodendrogliomas (ODGs), and therefore, have a key role in tumorigenesis and may be of prognostic value. However, the extent of their prognostic importance in various gliomas is controversial. We studied 168 patients separated into five groups: Group 1: 65 patients with ODG carrying an IDH1 or IDH2 mutation (IDH-mutant) and 1p/19q-codeletion, Group 2: 23 patients with anaplastic astrocytoma (AA), IDH-mutant, Group 3: 13 patients with GBM, IDH-mutant, Group 4: 15 patients with AA, IDH-wildtype (WT), and Group 5: 52 patients with GBM, IDH-WT.
