Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to assess the importance of MRI response evaluations during chemoradiotherapy (CRT) for patients with cervical adenocarcinoma to predict outcomes.
  • A retrospective analysis of 102 patients showed that those with a tumor volume reduction rate (TVRR) of 81.8% or higher had significantly better progression-free survival (PFS) and overall survival (OS) rates, along with lower locoregional recurrence (LRR) and distant metastasis (DM) rates.
  • The findings suggest that mid-treatment MRI assessments can provide valuable prognostic information, highlighting the relationship between tumor response and survival outcomes in cervical adenocarcinoma patients.

The state of Arizona has experienced one of the highest novel coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) positivity test rates in the United States with disproportionally higher case rates and deaths among African-American/Black (AA/B), American Indian/Alaska Native (Native), and Hispanic/Latinx (HLX) individuals. To reduce disparities and promote health equity, researchers from Arizona State University, Mayo Clinic in Arizona, Northern Arizona University, and the University of Arizona formed a partnership with community organizations to conduct state-wide community-engaged research and outreach. This report describes results from 34 virtually-held focus groups and supplemental survey responses conducted with 153 AA/B, HLX, and Native community members across Arizona to understand factors associated with COVID-19 vaccine hesitancy and confidence.

Previous research has found that attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) in children is related to bullying perpetration. This study examined the correlation between ADHD and bullying perpetration, and aimed to identify which factors, including bullying victimization, predicted bullying. Forty-nine elementary school students, aged 6-12, participated voluntarily in a comparative study between children with ADHD and non-ADHD control children; none of them had previously undergone psychiatric treatment.

The aim of the study was to evaluate pretreatment neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) and platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio (PLR) as prognostic factors for predicting clinical outcomes after definitive concurrent chemoradiotherapy (CCRT) for cervical cancer. The cases were divided into two groups based on the values of NLR and PLR: High NLR-PLR (high value in both NLR and PLR) and Low NLR-PLR (low value in either NLR or PLR). The relationships between survival outcomes and the pretreatment NLR-PLR were investigated.

Background: Myocutaneous flaps are composed of muscle and fat portions, and exhibit volume changes with time. However, no consideration is generally given to volume changes of muscle and fat portions occurring in the flap. Therefore, we conducted this study to analyze the volume changes of muscle and fat portions of pedicled latissimus dorsi myocutaneous flaps over time.

Background: Radiotherapy has been shown to cause malfunction of implantable cardioverter-defibrillators, and there are few studies of implantable cardioverter-defibrillators and radiotherapy. We report an unusual case of small cell lung cancer in a patient with an implantable cardioverter-defibrillator in whom direct irradiation to the electrode and lead could not be avoided.

Case Presentation: We report a case of radiotherapy in a 72-year-old Korean man with a limited stage of small cell lung cancer who had undergone insertion of an implantable cardioverter-defibrillator because of ventricular fibrillation.

We report a case of salvage lymphadenectomy for an isolated metastatic lesion in the para-aortic lymph node (LN) in a 49-year old woman with a history of cervical cancer, initially treated with radical hysterectomy and adjuvant radiotherapy. Preoperative 3-dimensional (3D) computed tomography (CT) angiography clearly revealed a huge retro-crural metastatic LN with distinct demarcation. A metastatic lesion, more than 10 cm in size, was located behind the vena cava, aorta, and left kidney, encompassing the left renal and lumbar arteries.
