: Postherpetic neuralgia (PHN) and postherpetic pruritus (PHP) are common complications of shingles that affect patients' quality of life. PHN and PHP can be managed using various medications and interventional procedures; however, complications persisting for at least six months may hamper recovery. Subcutaneous injections of botulinum toxin type A (BTX-A) can control persistent PHN and PHP.

Emergence agitation (EA) is common after nasal surgery. Strong opioids and N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) receptor antagonists prevent EA. Tramadol also acts as an opioid receptor agonist and an NMDA receptor antagonist, but few studies have evaluated the effects of tramadol on EA.

Background: Optic nerve sheath diameter (ONSD) is a well-known surrogate marker for intracranial pressure during robot-assisted laparoscopic radical prostatectomies (RALP). ONSD during RALP is known to increase due to elevated intracranial pressure as a result of the steep Trendelenburg position and carbon dioxide pneumoperitoneum. We aimed to compare the effects of total intravenous anesthesia (TIVA) and desflurane anesthesia (DES) on ONSD during RALP.

Background: Perioperative magnesium sulfate (MgSO4) is used for analgesic, anti-arrhythmic, and obstetric purposes. The effects of MgSO4 on the neuromuscular blockade (NMB) induced by rocuronium, and the sugammadex reversal thereof, have not been clearly quantified. We investigated the effect of various MgSO4 concentrations on the NMB by rocuronium, and sugammadex reversal, in isolated left phrenic nerve hemi-diaphragm (PNHD) preparations from the rat.
