Background: Bcl-2 is positively regulated by hormonal receptor pathways in breast cancer. A study was conducted to assess the prognostic significances of clinico-pathologic variables and of ER, PR, p53, c-erbB2, bcl-2, or Ki-67 as markers of relapse in breast cancer patients who had received the identical adjuvant therapy at a single institution.
Methods: A cohort of 151 curatively resected stage III breast cancer patients (M:F = 3:148, median age 46 years) who had 4 or more positive lymph nodes and received doxorubicin and cyclophosphamide followed by paclitaxel (AC/T) as adjuvant chemotherapy was analyzed for clinico-pathologic characteristics including disease-free survival (DFS) and overall survival (OS).
Objective: Limited availability of tumoral tissue in non-small-cell lung cancer and presence of epidermal growth factor receptor mutation-independent responses call for investigation of other molecular predictive marker of gefitinib responsiveness. Therefore, CA repeat polymorphism in intron 1 was analyzed for its association with gefitinib responsiveness together with epidermal growth factor receptor mutation in Korean patients.
Patients And Methods: For 86 advanced non-small-cell lung cancer patients treated with gefitinib, epidermal growth factor receptor mutation was analyzed by direct sequencing (exons 18-21) from tumor tissue and CA repeat polymorphism was assessed by fragment length analysis from tumor and/or normal tissue.
DNA methyltransferases (DNMT) 3B is a de novo DNMT that represses transcription independent of DNMT activity. In order to gain a better insight into DNMT3B-mediated transcriptional repression, we performed a yeast two-hybrid analysis using DNMT3B as a bait. Of the various binding candidates, ZHX1, a member of zinc-finger and homeobox protein, was found to interact with DNMT3B in vivo and in vitro.

We detailed oral intake and intravenous nutrition/hydration status on admission, 1 week after admission, and 2 days before death. In this study, the antitumor effects of SK-7041, one of those novel HDAC inhibitors, was evaluated on lung and breast cancer cell lines.

Purpose: Mutations in epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) are strongly predictive of gefitinib efficacy in non-small-cell lung cancer. However, the presence of EGFR mutant nonresponses and nonmutant responses points out the need for more comprehensive analysis.
Patients And Methods: For 69 non-small-cell lung cancer patients treated with gefitinib, we have extended our analysis to EGFR gene copy number by fluorescence in situ hybridization, mutations in K-ras, HER2, and exon 20 of EGFR by direct sequencing, and phosphatase and tensin homologue expression by immunohistochemistry, in addition to EGFR exons 18, 19, and 21, and phosphorylations of Akt and extracellular signal-regulated kinase reported previously.
Aims And Background: The HER2 gene encodes a 185-kd transmembrane glycoprotein receptor (p185(HER2)) that has partial homology with the epidermal growth factor receptor and shares intrinsic tyrosine kinase activity. To evaluate the toxicity and efficacy of a reduced dose intensity (mini-) FOLFOX-4 regimen as a first-line palliative chemotherapy in elderly patients (> or =70 yr of age) with advanced colorectal cancer, data from prospective databases at Seoul National University Bundang Hospital and Seoul Municipal Boramae Hospital were analyzed. A total of 20 patients were enrolled between January 2001 and August 2004, and were treated with oxaliplatin 65 mg/m2 on day 1, and with 2-hr infusions of leucovorin 150 mg/m2 followed by a 5-FU bolus (300 mg/m2) and 22-hr continuous infusions (450 mg/m2) for 2 consecutive days every 2 weeks until progression, unacceptable toxicity or patient refusal. The anthracyclines and taxanes are considered to be the most active drugs in metastatic breast cancer (MBC). We conducted a multicenter phase II study to evaluate the efficacy and tolerability of the docetaxel plus epirubicin combination chemotherapy as first-line treatment in MBC and performed a prospective assessment of the predictive values of circulating HER2 extracellular domain (ECD) and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF). Pemetrexed is a newly developed multitargeted antifolate with promising clinical activity in many solid tumors including gastric cancer. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the cytotoxicity of pemetrexed and its mode of interaction with cisplatin in gastric cancer cell lines, and to identify genes associated with sensitivity to pemetrexed.
