Objective: This narrative review aims to provide a comprehensive assessment of the existing literature on the relationship between hypnotics and dementia, considering both potential link and inconclusive or lack of association.
Methods: Data from studies that investigate the association between hypnotic medications and dementia were reviewed. Studies included both cohort studies and systematic reviews, participants with various type of dementia and hypnotics including benzodiazepines (BZDs) and Z-drugs (ZDs).
Background: The objectives of this cross-sectional study were to explore the relationship between weekend catch-up sleep (WCUS) and the risk of prediabetes/diabetes and to assess how this risk varies based on WCUS duration, using a large population sample in South Korea.
Methods: Data were sourced from the 2021 Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey, involving 2472 subjects aged 30 years and above, employed, and not using blood glucose-lowering medications. Prediabetes/diabetes risk was examined based on the presence of WCUS.
Radiotherapy (RT) triggers immunogenic cell death (ICD). L-ASNase, which catalyzes the conversion of asparagine (Asn), thereby depleting it, is used in the treatment of blood cancers. In previous work, we showed that CRT3LP and CRT4LP, PASylated L-ASNases conjugated to the calreticulin (CRT)-specific monobodies CRT3 and CRT4, increase the efficacy of ICD-inducing chemotherapy.

Methods: The National Health Insurance Services database was used to determine patterns in proportion of cholecystectomy and cholecystostomy in the total population of Korea from 2003 to 2017.
Background: Advances in medicine and changes in the medical environment can affect the diagnosis and treatment of diseases. The main purpose of the present study was to investigate whether the difference in accessibility to diagnosis and treatment facilities influenced the occurrence of appendectomy in Korea.
Methods: We collected data on 183,531 appendectomy patients between 2003 and 2017 using the National Health Insurance Services claims.
Background: Upper urinary tract urothelial carcinomas are relatively rare and have a cancer-specific survival rate of 20%-30%. The current gold standard treatment for nonmetastatic high-grade urinary tract urothelial carcinoma is radical nephroureterectomy with bladder cuff resection.
Objective: This study aimed to compare conditional cancer-specific survival between open radical nephroureterectomy and laparoscopic radical nephroureterectomy in patients with nonmetastatic stage pT3-4 or TxN(+) locally advanced urinary tract urothelial carcinoma from five tertiary centers.
Aim: This study evaluated the prognosis and survival predictors for bladder urachal carcinoma (UC), based on large scale multicenter cohort with long term follow-up database.
Methods: A total 203 patients with bladder UC treated at 19 hospitals were enrolled. Clinical parameters on carcinoma presentation, diagnosis, and therapeutic methods were reviewed for the primary cancer and for all subsequent recurrences.
Background: Gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) is a highly prevalent disease of the upper gastrointestinal tract, and it is associated with environmental and lifestyle habits. Due to an increasing interest in the environment, several groups are studying the effects of meteorological factors and air pollutants (MFAPs) on disease development.
Aim: To identify MFAPs effect on GERD-related medical utilization.
Mesoporous SiO adsorbents were combined with Fe oxide nanoparticles (∼10 nm) that can catalyze thermal oxidation of organic compounds at low temperatures. Fe oxide nanoparticle (∼10 nm)-incorporated SiO adsorbents were prepared via a temperature-regulated chemical vapor deposition method followed by a thermal annealing process. The removal efficiency and reusability of Fe oxide/SiO particles were examined and compared to those of bare SiO.

Methods: We performed a retrospective review of 1561 cases of UTUC who underwent either open RNU (ONU, n = 906) or laparoscopic RNU (LNU, n = 615) from five tertiary Korean institutions between January 2000 and December 2012. Data were used to develop a prediction model using the Cox proportional hazards model.
Purpose: The lower incidence of bladder cancer among women has led to a lack of information on female radical cystectomy (RC). This study aimed to analyze the characteristics related with female RC in a cohort from multiple academic institutions.
Materials And Methods: This was a retrospective review of 384 female patients who underwent RC for bladder cancer.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to compare oncologic outcomes between open nephroureterectomy (ONU) and laparoscopic nephroureterectomy (LNU) in patients with upper tract urothelial carcinoma.
Materials And Methods: The medical records of consecutive ONU and LNU cases from five tertiary institutions were retrospectively analyzed between 2000 and 2012. The propensity-score matching methodology was used to compare the two surgical approaches in terms of age, body mass index, American Society of Anesthesiologists score, tumor location, grade, pathologic T and N categories, the presence of lymphovascular invasion, and follow-up duration.
Purpose: We compared oncologic outcomes of patients with upper tract urothelial carcinoma (UTUC) who underwent open nephroureterectomy (ONU) or laparoscopic nephroureterectomy (LNU).
Materials And Methods: Consecutive cases of ONU and LNU between 2000 and 2012 at five participating institutions were included in this retrospective analysis. Clinical characteristics and pathologic outcomes were compared between the two surgical approaches.
Here we report that a novel synthesized compound (E)-2-methoxy-4-(3-(4-methoxyphenyl)prop-1-en-1-yl)phenol (MMPP) which exhibits better stability, drug-likeness and anti-cancer effect than (E)-2,4-bis(p-hydroxyphenyl)-2-butenal (BHPB) that we previously reported. Of all newly synthesized BHPB analogues, MMPP showed the most significant inhibitory effect on colon cancer cell growth. Thus, we evaluated the anti-cancer effects and possible mechanisms of MMPP and .

Neuro-inflammation is associated with activation of astrocyte and amyloid-beta (Aβ) generations that lead to pathogenesis of Alzheimer disease (AD). Previous our study showed that deficiency of CC chemokine receptor 5 (CCR5) results in activation of astrocytes and Aβ deposit, and thus memory dysfunction through increase of CC chemokine receptor 2 (CCR2) expression.
