Article Synopsis
- Researchers purified immunoglobulins (Igs) from flounder fish using mouse IgG and found that they consist of two heavy (H) and two light (L) chains of different sizes, identified through SDS-PAGE analysis.
- Monoclonal antibodies (MAbs) specific to these Igs were generated by fusing myeloma cells with spleen cells from mice immunized against purified flounder Igs, and these MAbs recognized both heavy and light chains in Western blot tests.
- Despite high percentages of Ig+ cells detected in the flounder's head kidney and spleen, the expected increase in Ig+ B-like cells after immunization was not observed, indicating that the fish's immune response
