Obesity is a major public health concern associated with a higher risk of various comorbidities. Some studies have explored the impact of obesity on cognitive function and, conversely, how lower intelligence might increase the risk of later obesity. The aim of this study is to analyze a complex relationship between body mass index (BMI) and intelligence quotient (IQ), employing a comprehensive approach, including a systematic review, meta-analysis, and Mendelian randomization (MR).

The South Korean government implemented the "well-dying law" in 2018, which enables patients to refuse futile life-sustaining treatment (LST) after being determined as terminally ill. We aimed to study whether the well-dying law is associated with a significant change in the quality of death in the ICU.

Background: Endobronchial lung cancer (EBLC) and bronchial anthracofibrosis (BAF) share similar symptoms and radiological findings. The aim of this study was to describe clinical and radiological differences between BAF and EBLC, both of which were confirmed by bronchoscopy.
Methods: This was a retrospective study of patients with BAF or EBLC from 2008 to 2014.
Neuronal growth regulator 1 (NEGR1) is a GPI-anchored membrane protein that is involved in neural cell adhesion and communication. Multiple genome wide association studies have found that NEGR1 is a generic risk factor for multiple human diseases, including obesity, autism, and depression. Recently, we reported that Negr1-/- mice showed a highly increased fat mass and affective behavior.

The aim of this study was to compare the mortality risk and causes of death between individuals with bronchiectasis and those without bronchiectasis.
Methods: Patients with or without bronchiectasis determined based on chest computed tomography (CT) at one centre between 2005 and 2016 were enrolled.
Purpose: To compare clinical characteristics and outcomes between critically ill homeless and non-homeless patients admitted to the intensive care unit (ICU) in a Korea.
Materials And Methods: We retrospectively analyzed the medical charts of homeless and non-homeless patients admitted to ICU at Seoul Boramae Medical Center between January 2012 and December 2017. Patients were selected using 1: 2 propensity score matching including age, sex, and type of ICU and multivariate analyses were performed to determine risk factors for hospital and ICU mortality.
Parkin encodes an E3 ubiquitin ligase, and mutations affecting its catalytic potential are implicated in autosomal recessive Parkinson's disease (PD). The M458L mutation of parkin and its enzymatic effects require characterization. Therefore, we examined the enzymatic activity of Parkin with M458L mutation.
