Hydrogel-based scaffolds play a crucial role in widespread biotechnological applications by providing physicochemical stability to loaded cells or therapeutic agents, interacting with organismal microenvironments, and controlling cargo release. Polysaccharides are regarded as attractive candidates among substrate materials because of their high water-retaining capacity, reactive functional groups, ease of gelation, low immunogenicity, biodegradability, and biocompatibility. However, employing polysaccharide-based hydrogel scaffolds for practical use in response to ongoing physiological and pathological changes within the human body, such as insufficient mechanical strength, uncertain degradation, and uncontrollable release patterns, is challenging.

The affected region is invariably correlated with tumor location, which can be detected on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). We describe the cochleovestibular manifestations of ICs and IVCs.

Currently, no commercial vaccine is available for human use. Here, eight structure-based mammalian-expressed recombinant proteins harboring the NiV surface proteins, fusion glycoprotein (F), and the major attachment glycoprotein (G) were produced.

Here, we elucidate in vitro some of the mechanisms by which rAAV2-sVEGFRv-1 exerts its therapeutic effects. Human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs) were infected with rAAV2-sVEGFRv-1 or a control virus vector in the presence of members of the VEGF family to identify potential binding partners via ELISA, which showed that VEGF-A, VEGF-B, and placental growth factor (PlGF) are all ligands of its transgene product.

An ideal scaffold must possess mechanical properties suitable for tissue function and exhibit biodegradability. Although synthetic polymer scaffolds offer high rigidity and elasticity owing to their reactive side groups, which facilitate tailored mechanical and rheological properties, they may lack biological cues and cause persistent side effects during degradation.

However, there is a greatly limited number of bioink candidates exploited with extrusion-based bioprinting, as they meet the opposing requirements for printability with indispensable rheological features and for biochemical functionality with desirable microenvironment. In this study, a blend of silk fibroin (SF) and iota-carrageenan (CG) was chosen as a cell-friendly printable material.

Methods: The original English version of the Pedi-IKDC questionnaire was translated and transculturally adapted into Korean according to established guidelines. A total of 239 patients aged 7-18 years who visited the hospital because of knee pain or discomfort were considered eligible for the study.
Locally advanced laryngeal cancers treatment often involves total laryngectomy, which some patients are unwilling to undergo, even if this choice reduces their survival probability. Therefore, the objective of laryngeal oncologic surgery is not only to remove the tumor, but also to preserve the organ and its functions. To overcome these concerns, several partial laryngectomy techniques have been developed.

Although IOP is controlled pharmacologically, no treatment is available to restore retinal and optic nerve function. In this paper, we aimed to develop a novel gene therapy for glaucoma using an AAV2-based thioredoxin 2 (Trx2)-exoenzyme C3 transferase (C3) fusion protein expression vector (scAAV2-Trx2-C3).

Therefore, understanding the biological environment during regeneration is essential to promote neuronal regeneration and overcome this phenomenon. The gut microbiota regulates intestinal immune homeostasis, but the role of Axl in the pathogenesis of IBD through the regulation of gut microbiota composition remains unresolved. In this study, mice with DSS-induced colitis showed increased Axl expression, which was almost entirely suppressed by depleting the gut microbiota with antibiotics.

Despite these advantages, there remain drawbacks such as unsatisfying mechanical properties or low processability, which hinder natural tissue substitution. Several non-covalent or covalent crosslinking methods induced by chemicals, temperatures, pH, or light sources have been suggested to overcome these limitations.

To investigate the biological relevance of miR-769-3p in the stromal phenotype, we established oral squamous cell cancer (OSCC) cell lines, namely CAL27, HSC3, and YD8, overexpressing miR-769-3p. miR-769-3p expression was positively and negatively correlated with interferon-gamma-related genes and MYC target gene sets, respectively.

Even when using conventional equipment, processing data can be measured and recorded by various devices anywhere through an Internet communication. A message-based protocol allows flexible communication that overcomes the shortcomings of the existing server-client protocol.

Recent studies have revealed that the composition of human gut microbiota varies according to region, race, age, diet, living environment, and sampling and DNA extraction method. The purpose of this study was to broaden our understanding of the intestinal microbial composition of Koreans by conducting a 16S rRNA amplicon sequencing on 78 Korean samples composed of adults, children, normal and obese groups. We compared the microbiome composition and diversity of these groups at different levels including the phylum and genus level using two different stool DNA extraction kits of QIAamp® PowerFecal® DNA Kit (Qiagen, Hilden, Germany) and CT Max Fecal DNA Kit (Ct bio, Korea).
View Article and Find Full Text PDFThe most common oral cavity cancer is squamous cell carcinoma (SCC), of which perineural invasion (PNI) is a significant prognostic factor associated with decreased survival and an increased rate of locoregional recurrence. In the classical theory of PNI, cancer was believed to invade nerves directly through the path of least resistance in the perineural space; however, more recent evidence suggests that PNI requires reciprocal signaling interactions between tumor cells and nerve components, particularly Schwann cells. Specifically, head and neck SCC can express neurotrophins and neurotrophin receptors that may contribute to cancer migration towards nerves, PNI, and neuritogenesis towards cancer.
