Purpose Of Review: Although there are a lot of studies examining the effects of different blocks for postoperative analgesia after video-assisted thoracic surgery (VATS), the results are controversial.

Recent Findings: Paravertebral block, serratus anterior plane block and erector spinae plane block appear to be effective and beneficial for post-VATS analgesia, but probably in different manners.

Summary: All three blocks can be suggested for daily practice, the choice should be based on personal experience and preference of the anesthetist.

Unlabelled: Oxaliplatin-induced immune thrombocytopenia is a rare but potentially serious complication of chemotherapy. We present the case of a 55-year-old man with stage 4 pancreatic carcinoma who developed immune thrombocytopenia during the 18 cycle of folinic acid, fluorouracil, irinotecan, and oxaliplatin (FOLFIRINOX) chemotherapy, immediately after oxaliplatin infusion. Despite treatment with methylprednisolone and platelet infusion, the patient's platelet count remained low.

A versatile family of quaternary propargylamines was synthesized employing the KA multicomponent reaction, through the single-step coupling of a number of amines, ketones, and terminal alkynes. Sustainable synthetic procedures using transition metal catalysts were employed in all cases. The inhibitory activity of these molecules was evaluated against human monoaminoxidase (hMAO)-A and hMAO-B enzymes and was found to be significant.

Bacteria, omnipresent in our environment and coexisting within our body, exert dual beneficial and pathogenic influences. These microorganisms engage in intricate interactions with the human body, impacting both human health and disease. Simultaneously, certain organelles within our cells share an evolutionary relationship with bacteria, particularly mitochondria, best known for their energy production role and their dynamic interaction with each other and other organelles.

The abnormal levels of the human carbonic anhydrase isoenzymes I and II (hCA I and II) and cholinesterase enzymes, namely, acetylcholinesterase (AChE) and butyrylcholinesterase (BChE), are linked with various disorders including Alzheimer's disease. In this study, six new nicotinic hydrazide derivatives (-) were designed and synthesized for the first time, and their inhibitory profiles against hCA I, hCA II, AChE, and BChE were investigated by assays and studies. The structures of novel molecules were elucidated by using spectroscopic techniques and elemental analysis.

This study reports a rapid and efficient synthesis of four novel aryl Schiff base derivatives. Biological activity and molecular modeling studies were conducted to evaluate the inhibitory effects of these compounds on human carbonic anhydrases (hCA) and cholinesterases. The results indicate that the triazole-ring-containing compounds have strong inhibitory effects on hCA I, hCA II, acetylcholinesterase (AChE), and butyrylcholinesterase (BuChE) targets.

A series of salicylidene uracil (1-18) derived from 5-aminouracil and substituted salicylaldehydes were analyzed for cytotoxic activity and enzyme inhibitory potency. Nine out of eighteen derivatives (6-8, 10, 12-15, 18) are novel molecules synthesized for the first time in this work, and other derivatives were previously synthesized by our group. The compounds were characterized by Proton nuclear magnetic resonance, carbon nuclear magnetic resonance, fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, and elemental analysis.

Dynamical analysis of epidemiological models received significant attention after the global disaster of the Covid-19 pandemic. Although much of the attention has focused on choosing the appropriate model to describe and interpret the epidemiological data and on predicting the spread of the disease, working on uncovering the hidden dynamics by analyzing the predictive data and studying the algebraic properties of the models such as the invariant spaces, the center manifolds, and the Lyapunov functions in the general parameter space still have the potential to make a significant contribution to our understanding of the dynamics of spread. In this paper, in order to determine the recovery rate based on characteristic model parameters, the triangular probabilistic distribution is implemented in an epidemic delay differential equation with delays.

Bdellovibrio bacteriovorus is a bacterial agent that stands out for its ability to act as a predator against gram-negative bacteria and has found application against antibiotic-resistant pathogens. The aim of this study is to determine the efficacy of Bdellovibrio bacteriovorus against antibiotic-resistant pathogens, particularly those causing infections in surgical incision sites. A total of 6 experimental groups were created in mice, and surgical area infections were initiated with Klebsiella pneumoniae in incision sites.

Background: 'Temporomandibular joint disorders (TMDs)' denote an umbrella term that includes arthritic, musculoskeletal and neuromuscular conditions involving the temporomandibular joint, the masticatory muscles, and the associated tissues. Occlusal devices are one of the common treatment modalities utilized in the conservative management of TMDs. The indications for the available 'oral splints' or 'oral orthotic occlusal devices' remain ambiguous.

Objectives: Position changes and increased intra-abdominal pressure in laparoscopic interventions lead to some physiopathological changes. There is no definite information in the literature regarding cerebral oxygen saturation in patients undergoing colorectal surgery. Our aim was to investigate whether there is oxygen saturation change in the brain tissue in pneumoperitoneum and the Trendelenburg position during laparoscopic rectal surgery.

Background: Surgical tympanostomy tube insertion is a standard procedure in Otitis media with effusion after proper follow-up. During the surgery, the presence of serous or mucoid fluids, atelectatic tympanic membrane, or empty ear may be observed, despite all patients having the same diagnosis. A better method based on a non-invasive approach can help avoid unnecessary surgery.

A series of sulfenimide derivatives (1a-i) were investigated as inhibitors of human (hCA-I, hCA-II) and bovine (bCA) carbonic anhydrase enzymes. The compounds were synthesised by the reaction of substituted thiophenols with phthalimide by means of an effective, simple and eco-friendly method and the structures were confirmed by IR, H NMR, C NMR, MS and elemental analysis. All derivatives except for the methyl derivative () exhibited effective inhibitory action at low micromolar concentrations on human isoforms, but only four derivatives (, , , ) inhibited the bovine enzyme.

Gynecological malignancies arise from hereditary and somatic mutations, transcriptional aberrations, and genomic alterations influenced by epigenetic factors. This study aims to identify the mutations and their frequency in endometrial carcinomas (EC), and furthermore, to determine the relationship of these mutations with histopathological and immunohistochemical (IHC) parameters. The study was carried out in a retrospective cohort of 98 patients who received treatment upon being diagnosed with EC at a tertiary university hospital in Turkey between 2016 and 2021.

In this research, a series of N-phenylsulfonamide derivatives (1-12) were designed, synthesized, and investigated for their inhibitory potencies against carbonic anhydrase isoenzymes I, II, and IX (hCA I, hCA II, and hCA IX) and cholinesterases (ChE), namely, acetylcholinesterase and butyrylcholinesterase. These compounds, whose inhibition potentials were evaluated for the first time, were characterized by spectroscopic techniques ( H- and C-NMR and FT-IR). CA isoenzyme inhibitors are significant therapeutic targets, especially owing to their preventive/activation potential in the therapy processes of some diseases such as cancer, osteoporosis, and glaucoma.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study aimed to compare pain relief after video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS) using three methods: ultrasound-guided erector spinae plane block (ESPB), thoracic paravertebral block (TPVB), and a combination of both (comb-group), with 75 patients participating.
  • - Results showed that patients receiving TPVB experienced higher pain levels (measured by Visual Analog Scale) and required more morphine and rescue analgesics compared to those in the ESPB or comb-group.
  • - The findings suggest that ESPB alone and the combination of ESPB and TPVB were more effective in managing acute pain post-surgery than TPVB alone, indicating the potential benefits of using ESPB for
