Turkey's transition to face-to-face schooling during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Background: The COVID-19 pandemic majorly disrupted conventional schooling and many countries maintained educational services through distance education. The duration of school closures in Turkey was longer than most OECD countries, thus Turkey prioritized school reopenings in the 2021-2022 academic year to mitigate possible negative outcomes of closures. Here we study the compatibility of implications for school reopenings in Turkey with these practices and assess the first semester of face-to-face schooling.

Biochemical and Morphological Characteristics of Some Macrofungi Grown Naturally.

Recently, the production of macro-fungi (mushrooms) has steadily increased, and so has their economic value, in global terms. The use of functional foods, dietary supplements, and traditional medicines derived from macro-fungi is increasing as they have numerous health benefits as well as abundant nutrients. This study aimed to determine some biochemical contents (pH, soluble solid contents (SSC), total antioxidant capacity (TAC) and total phenolic contents (TPC)) of eight edible macro-fungi species growing naturally (in the wild) in Turkey.

Disseminated fungal infection by Aureobasidium pullulans in a renal transplant recipient.

Renal transplant recipients are on long-term potent immunosuppressive therapy, which makes them highly vulnerable to opportunistic fungal infections. Dematiaceous, or dark-pigmented saprophytic fungi, are being increasingly seen as opportunistic pathogens of mycoses in immunosuppressed patients. One of these is Aureobasidium pullulans, which is a black yeast-like dematiaceous fungus found ubiquitously in the environment that can cause various opportunistic human infections.

Colistin use in pediatric intensive care unit for severe nosocomial infections: experience of an university hospital.

Background: The aim of this study was to investigate the efficacy and safety of colistin therapy in pediatric patients with severe nosocomial infections in pediatric intensive care unit.

Methods: The medical records of patients treated with colistin at a 200-bed university children hospital were reviewed.

Result: Thirty-one patients (male/female = 22/9; median age, 3 years; range, 3 months-17 years) received forty-one courses of colistin.

Resistances have been identified primarily in exotic germplasm that require transfer to elite cultivated backgrounds. To select more efficiently for virus resistances, we identified molecular markers tightly linked to PRSV-W and ZYMV resistances in cucumber.
