The Japanese guidelines for the treatment of gastric cancer recommend nivolumab as third-line chemotherapy for metastatic gastric cancer. We report a case of gastric cancer exhibiting a durable response after the discontinuation of nivolumab due to the early onset of immune-related adverse event (irAE). A 64-year-old man with advanced HER2-positive gastric cancer and distant lymph node metastasis received nivolumab as fourth-line therapy.

Purpose: The standard first-line treatment for human epidermal growth factor receptor type 2 (HER2)-positive advanced gastric cancer (AGC) is trastuzumab in combination with cisplatin and fluoropyrimidines. We evaluated the efficacy and safety of S-1 and oxaliplatin (100 mg/m) (SOX100) combined with trastuzumab, a monoclonal antibody against HER2 for HER2-positive AGC.

Methods: In this single-arm, multicenter phase II study, patients with HER2-positive AGC received S-1 (80-120 mg per day) orally on days 1-14, oxaliplatin (100 mg/m) intravenously on day 1, and trastuzumab (8 mg/kg on day 1 of the first cycle, followed by 6 mg/kg every 3 weeks) intravenously.

Mining activities often generate large amounts of sulfide-rich wastes containing arsenopyrite (FeAsS), which when dissolved releases toxic arsenic (As) and generates acid mine drainage (AMD) that are both disastrous to the environment. To suppress arsenopyrite dissolution, a technique that selectively coats sulfide minerals with a protective layer of Al-oxyhydroxide called Al-based carrier-microencapsulation (CME) was developed. Although a previous study of the authors showed that Al-based CME could significantly limit arsenopyrite dissolution, nature of the coating formed on arsenopyrite, including its electrochemical properties, is still not well understood.

Acid mine/rock drainage (AMD/ARD), effluents with low pH and high concentrations of hazardous and toxic elements generated when sulfide-rich wastes are exposed to the environment, is considered as a serious environmental problem encountered by the mining and mineral processing industries around the world. Remediation options like neutralization, adsorption, ion exchange, membrane technology, biological mediation, and electrochemical approach have been developed to reduce the negative environmental impacts of AMD on ecological systems and human health. However, these techniques require the continuous supply of chemicals and energy, expensive maintenance and labor cost, and long-term monitoring of affected ecosystems until AMD generation stops.

The visual photopigment rhodopsin (Rh) is a prototypical G protein-coupled receptor (GPCR) responsible for initiation of the phototransduction cascade in rod photoreceptors. Similar to other GPCRs, Rh can form dimers or even higher oligomers and tends to have a supramolecular organization that is likely important in the dim light response. Rh also exhibits high affinity for lipid rafts ( raftophilicity) upon light-dependent binding with the cognate G protein transducin (G), suggesting the presence of lipid raft-like domains in the retinal disk membrane and their importance in phototransduction.

Problem: We investigated the effect of palmitic acid (PA), a major saturated fatty acid in NEFA, on bovine oviduct epithelial cells (OECs) during in vitro cell culture.
