A simple method for determining elemental sulfur in environmental water was developed and applied to seawater samples collected immediately after the occurrence of blue tides in Tokyo Bay. To investigate the concentration and extraction methods, artificial elemental sulfur was quantitatively produced by oxidizing a sulfide solution with an iodine solution, then used as a standard reagent in the experiments. Scanning electron-assisted dielectric microscopy (SE-ADM) is a new microscope technology developed to observe the fine structure of biological samples in aqueous solution. One main advantage of SE-ADM is that it does not require sample pretreatment, including dehydration, drying, and staining, which is indispensable in conventional scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and can cause sample deformation. We here show that adipocyte-specific PDK1 (3'-phosphoinositide-dependent kinase 1)-deficient (A-PDK1KO) mice manifest impaired metabolic actions of insulin in adipose tissue and reduction of adipose tissue mass. A-PDK1KO mice developed insulin resistance, glucose intolerance, and hepatic steatosis, and this phenotype was suppressed by additional ablation of FoxO1 specifically in adipocytes (A-PDK1/FoxO1KO mice) without an effect on adipose tissue mass.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to evaluate whether tendoscopic peroneal retinaculum repair for patients with recurrent peroneal tendon dislocation (RPTD) is more useful than an open procedure.
Methods: Twenty-five patients with RPTD were retrospectively reviewed. Twelve patients (13 ankles) with RPTD underwent the open procedure (Group A) between 2008 and 2014, and 13 patients (14 ankles) underwent the tendoscopic procedure (Group B) between 2014 and 2017.
