Postoperative corneal remodeling after corneal allograft intrastromal ring segment (CAIRS) implantation for keratoconus: An OCT study.

Objectives: To demonstrate corneal remodeling after corneal allograft intrastromal ring segment (CAIRS) with an anterior-segment optical coherence tomography (AS-OCT).

Design: A prospective observational single-center study.

Methods: This observational study included keratoconus patients who underwent CAIRS implantation into a stromal tunnel.

Comparison of macular and optic disc vessel density in thyroid orbitopathy: a comparative octa study.

Purpose: To determine the microvascular and structural changes in the peripapillary and macular areas observed in patients with active thyroid orbitopathy(TO) before and after steroid treatment and compare with inactive TO and the control group by optical coherence tomography angiography (OCTA).

Material And Method: This cross-sectional study included 34 eyes of 17 active TO patients, 108 eyes of 54 inactive TO patients, and 60 eyes of 30 healthy controls. Central macular thickness (CMT), ganglion cell layer-inner plexiform layer (GCL-IPL) thickness, central choroidal thickness (CCT), retinal nerve fiber layer (RNFL) thickness, choroidal thickness in the peripapillary region, superficial capillary plexus (SCP), deep capillary plexus (DCP) and choriocapillaris vessel densities were determined by OCTA in before and after 12-week steroid treatment of active TO cases, inactive TO and control groups.

Histopathological View of Benign Essential Blepharospasm: Orbicularis Oculi Hormone Receptor Levels.

Objectives: Benign essential blepharospasm (BEB) is a focal dystonia characterized by involuntary contractions of the orbicularis oculi and periocular muscles. We aimed to investigate the effects of muscle receptor levels on the etiopathogenesis of blepharospasm by evaluating the orbicularis oculi estrogen receptor (ER) and androgen receptor (AR) levels.

Methods: Four blepharospasm patients (2 females and 2 males) who underwent upper lid blepharoplasty and/or orbicularis myomectomy and 4 healthy cases (2 females, 2 males) that had upper lid blepharoplasty were included.

Efficacy and safety of intracorneal allogenic ring segment implantation in keratoconus: 1-year results.

Background: To evaluate the safety and efficacy of corneal allogenic intrastromal ring segments in the management of keratoconus patients.

Methods: The retrospective, nonrandomized, interventional case series consisted of 65 keratoconic eyes of 49 consecutive patients who had ring segment-shaped corneal allografts (KeraNatural®) implanted in intrastromal tunnels created using a femtosecond laser. The main outcome measures were uncorrected visual acuity (UCVA), corrected distant visual acuity (CDVA), refraction, keratometry, and pachymetry.

Erdheim-Chester disease with chorioretinal and orbital involvement: a case report.

A 42-year-old woman presented with bilateral proptosis, chemosis, leg pain, and vision loss. Orbital, chorioretinal, and multi-organ involvement of Erdheim-Chester disease, a rare non-Langerhans histiocytosis, with a negative BRAF mutation was diagnosed based on clinical, radiological, and pathological findings. Interferon-alpha-2a (IFNα-2a) was started, and her clinical condition improved.

Efficacy of keratometric values obtained from Sirius topographer® in nidek axial length-scan® for intraocular lens calculation after penetrating keratoplasty.

Background: To evaluate the accuracy of keratometric values obtained from Scheimpflug (Sirius) topography using Nidek AL-Scan optical biometry (OB) for intraocular lens (IOL) power calculating after penetrating keratoplasty (PK).

Methods: Thirty eyes of 26 patients were included in this study. The demographic information, complete ophthalmic examination, IOL calculation technique, and its effect on final refractive results were evaluated.

Changes in anterior chamber dimensions following small incision lenticule extraction (SMILE).

Purpose: To evaluate the changes in anterior chamber dimensions including horizontal anterior chamber diameter (HACD), anterior chamber depth (ACD), and iridocorneal angle (ICA) following small incision lenticule extraction (SMILE) using Scheimpflug-Placido disk tomographer (Sirius).

Methods: The records of the 73 eyes of 47 patients who received SMILE for myopia and myopic astigmatism were retrospectively reviewed. Preoperative and 6-month postoperative measurements of central corneal thickness (CCT), HACD, ACD, ICA, nasal anterior chamber angle (nACA), and temporal anterior chamber angle (tACA) were obtained by tomography, and compared with paired t-tests.

The Effect of Lower Eyelid Malposition Repair on Palpebral Fissure Size Changes.

Objectives: The aim of the study was to evaluate the effect of changes in the horizontal and vertical palpebral fissure dimensions on surgical success performed due to entropion and ectropion of the lower eyelid.

Methods: The present research was conducted as a retrospective and interventional case series who had undergone involutional lower eyelid malposition repair with a lateral tarsal strip (LTS) alone, LTS with a medial spindle, and LTS with the advancement of the lower eyelid retractors. The subjects' medical records, including demographic and clinic characteristics, pre-operative assessment of horizontal eyelid laxity, and surgical outcomes, were reviewed.

2D Analysis of Gold Weight Implantation Surgery Results in Paralytic Lagophthalmos.

Objectives: Gold weight implantation in the upper eyelid is a frequently performed treatment for paralytic lagophthalmos to prevent corneal exposure. A margin reflex distance of -1 and -2 (MRD1, MRD2), the palpebral fissure height (PFH), and the vertical lagophthalmos (LV) are 1-dimensional (1D) measurements used in follow-up. Because the exposure area is 2-dimensional (2D), this study was designed to investigate the results using both 1D and 2D analysis.

Muller muscle conjunctival resection or external levator advancement; a quantitative comparison of symmetry in unilateral ptosis.

Purpose: To compare muller muscle conjunctival resection (MMCR) and external levator advancement (ELA) in terms of objective and subjective symmetry in unilateral ptosis.

Methods: The patients who underwent unilateral MMCR (group1,  = 25) and ELA (group2,  = 25) were reviewed retrospectively. With the written algorithm, margin reflex distance-1 (MRD1), localization of the contour peak, and the percentage of overlapping curvatures (POC) of both upper eyelid curves were calculated.

Graft survival and clinical outcomes of Descemet membrane endothelial keratoplasty: long-term results.

Purpose: The aim is to report long-term graft survival rates and clinical outcomes of Descemet membrane endothelial keratoplasty (DMEK).

Methods: In this study 150 eyes that underwent DMEK whether for Fuchs endothelial corneal dystrophy (FECD) or for bullous keratopathy (BK) surveilled for 7 years at 6 time points to evaluate graft survival rates and clinical outcomes of post-corneal transplantation.

Results: Overall, the estimated survival probability of 95% confidence interval at 7 years of post-DMEK was 0.

The Effect of Secondary Intraocular Lens Implantation Time on Visual Prognosis in Aphakia Cases after Open Globe Injury.

Purpose: We investigated the effect of the time of secondary intraocular lens (IOL) implantation on final visual acuity and other causes affecting visual prognosis in cases left aphakic after open globe injury.

Methods: The study included 62 eyes of 62 patients left aphakic after the repair of open globe injury between 2012 and 2019. Demographic characteristics, trauma zone, ocular trauma score, type of injury, time of secondary IOL implantation, final best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA), and complications were recorded for each patient.

Predictive Factors for Corneal Scarring in Progressive Keratoconus Patients after Corneal Collagen Cross-linking.

: To evaluate predictive factors for corneal scar formation following corneal collagen cross-linking (CXL).: The medical records of 295 progressive keratoconus patients who had undergone accelerated CXL were reviewed retrospectively in this comparative cohort study. Thirty-two eyes of 32 patients who still had a corneal scar in the first year (scar group) and 75 eyes of 75 patients without any scar (control group) were included.

Comparing the outcome of Muller's muscle conjunctival resection for mild/moderate versus severe involutional aponeurotic ptosis.

Aims: To compare predictability of the outcomes of Muller's muscle conjunctiva resection (MMCR) in patients with severe versus mild/moderate involutional aponeurotic ptosis.

Methods: This was a retrospective case-control study. All cases were recruited into the groups in terms of preoperative marginal reflex distance of upper eyelid (MRD-1).

Effect of capsular tension ring on refractive results in cases with pseudoexfoliation syndrome.

Purpose: To investigate the effect of capsular tension rings (CTRs) on postoperative refractive results in patients with pseudoexfoliation (PSX) syndrome.

Materials And Methods: Sixty-nine patients with PSX syndrome who had uncomplicated cataract surgery between March 2016 and February 2019 were reviewed retrospectively. The patients were divided into two groups.

The Use of Autologous Serum Eye Drops after Epithelium-off Corneal Collagen Crosslinking.

Significance: After epithelium-off crosslinking (CXL), epithelial closure time and post-operative pain are an important issue in terms of possible complications and patient comfort. We report a prospective randomized study about the use of autologous serum eye drops after CXL.

Purpose: This study aims to evaluate the effect of autologous serum eye drops on epithelial healing and post-operative pain after CXL.

Purpose: This study aims to compare serum calcium, magnesium, phosphorus, and 25-hydroxy (OH)-vitamin D levels in patients with benign essential blepharospasm (BEB) and healthy subjects and to determine their association with disease severity and frequency.

Methods: This is a prospective study conducted in a tertiary care hospital. Fifty patients (female, 39; male, 11) with BEB and 22 healthy subjects (female, 15; male, 7) included in the study.

Normal tension glaucoma (NTG) is a subtype of glaucoma that occurs at relatively low intraocular pressure levels and results in progressive optic neuropathy. Previous studies display some abnormal immune activity against the optic nerve. Neutrophil to lymphocyte (NLR) and platelet to lymphocyte ratios (PLR) are novel markers for inflammation.

Alterations in Corneal Biomechanical and Topographic Features After Accelerated Crosslinking: 1-Year Results.

Objectives: To determine the biomechanical and topographic alterations within the first year after accelerated crosslinking (CXL) treatment in patients with keratoconus.

Methods: In this prospective study, 52 eyes of 52 patients with progressive keratoconus underwent accelerated CXL were included. All patients had a detailed preoperative ophthalmologic examination, including slit-lamp evaluation, Goldmann tonometry, fundoscopy, topography by Scheimpflug imaging (Sirius), and corneal biomechanical evaluation with a biomechanical waveform analysis device (ORA).

Complication of micro-bypass stenting: the anterior chamber displacement of a Xen implant.

Although minimally invasive glaucoma surgery using different types of implants is a promising strategy for treating glaucoma, potential long-term complications require further evaluation. Here, we report a case of the anterior chamber displacement of a Xen implant due to a maneuver aimed at correcting a dysfunctional and bent subconjunctival implant.

Introduction: Transcanalicular laser DCR (TL-DCR) approaches have been developed for the formation of a fistula between the nasal cavity and the lacrimal sac to ensure the continuity of the lacrimal drainage system over the years. However, the success rate of TL-DCR has varied widely.

Protective effect of pomegranate juice on retinal oxidative stress in streptozotocin-induced diabetic rats.

Aim: To investigate the effect of pomegranate juice (PJ) intake on overall oxidation status in retinas of diabetic rats.

Methods: Twenty-seven rats were divided into four groups as control (CO), diabetic (DM), control treated with PJ (CO-PJ), and diabetic treated with PJ (DM-PJ).The retina tissues were used to determine 8-hydroxy-2'-deoxyguanosine (8OHdG), malondialdehyde (MDA), reduced glutathione (GSH) levels, and the enzyme activities of superoxide dismutase (SOD) and glutathione peroxidase (GSH-Px).

Selective Laser Trabeculoplasty vs. Fixed Combinations with Timolol in Practice: A Replacement Study in Primary Open Angle Glaucoma.

Objectives: To evaluate the potential of selective laser trabeculoplasty (SLT) in two arms (360˚ vs. 180˚) as a replacement for fixed combinations (FCs) with timolol in primary open angle glaucoma over 6 months.

Materials And Methods: Of 40 patients in a prospective, comparative, interventional case series, 18 eyes and 22 eyes were randomized to SLT 180º and SLT 360º groups, respectively, along with 40 fellow-control eyes.
