Spatiotemporal evaluation and assessment of shallow groundwater quality for irrigation of a tropical coastal groundwater basin.

The present study aims at analyzing groundwater quantity and quality simultaneously to identify its availability and suitability for irrigation. Various water quality indices were used to assess (i) origin of the groundwater sources (Gibbs diagram); (ii) salinity, alkalinity, and sodium hazard (sodium adsorption ratio, exchangeable sodium percentage, Kelly's ratio, US Salinity Laboratory diagram, Wilcox diagram); (iii) magnesium hazard (magnesium absorption ratio); (iv) carbonate and bicarbonate hazard (residual sodium carbonate); (v) hydro-chemical facie and evaluation (Piper diagram and Expanded Durov diagram); and (vi) statistical relationship among the variables, sample sites, and spatiotemporal grouping (principal component analysis and cluster analysis). The overall objective is to quantify the irrigation suitability of groundwater reserves.

Venolymphatic malformation in lateral edge of the tongue: case report.

Vascular malformations are vascular anomalies that can affect veins, lymphatic vessels, and/or arteries in isolated or mixed form. When they present in the mixed form with venous and lymphatic involvement, they are called venolymphatic or lymphatic-venous malformations, depending on their predominant component. Although these are benign disorders with good prognosis, they are locally invasive and may lead to deformity, while there is also a propensity for local recurrence.

Background: A rhegmatogenous retinal detachment (RRD) is a separation of the neurosensory retina from the retinal pigment epithelium caused by a full-thickness break associated with vitreous traction. While pneumatic retinopexy (PR), scleral buckle (SB), and vitrectomy are all well-received surgical interventions for eyes with RRD, their relative effectiveness has remained controversial.

Objectives: To assess the effectiveness and safety of PR versus SB or PR versus a combination treatment of SB and vitrectomy for people with RRD and to summarize any data on economic measures and quality of life.

Active Video Games for Improving Mental Health and Physical Fitness-An Alternative for Children and Adolescents during Social Isolation: An Overview.

The aim of this study was to synthesize the evidence on the effects of active video games (AVGs) on mental health, physical fitness and body composition of children and adolescents. A search was conducted in the following databases: PubMed; MEDLINE (by Ovid); SportDiscus, Cochrane library systematic reviews (CENTRAL) and EMBASE with no language restrictions during October 2020. Reviews on the use of AVGs were included in the study.

Background: G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) comprise a family of membrane proteins that can be activated by a variety of external factors. The μ-opioid receptor (MOR), a class A GPCR, is the main target of morphine. Recently, enhanced sampling molecular dynamics simulations of a constitutively active mutant of MOR in its apo form allowed us to capture the novel intermediate states of activation, as well as the active state.

Integrated GIS-based RUSLE approach for quantification of potential soil erosion under future climate change scenarios.

Human-induced agricultural and developmental activities cause substantial alteration to the natural geography of a landscape; thereby accelerates the geologic soil erosion process. This necessitates quantification of catchment-scale soil erosion under both retrospective and future scenarios for efficient conservation of soil resources. Here, we present a revised universal soil loss equation (RUSLE) based soil erosion estimation framework at an unprecedentedly high spatial resolution (30 × 30 m) to quantify the average annual soil loss and sediment yield from an agriculture-dominated river basin.

Potentiation of antibiotic activity by chalcone (E)-1-(4'-aminophenyl)-3-(furan-2-yl)-prop-2-en-1-one against gram-positive and gram-negative MDR strains.

Chalcones are α,β-unsaturated ketones containing the 1,3-diarylprop-2-en-1-one framework. This study aims to evaluate the potentiation of antibacterial activity by the chalcone (E)-1-(4-aminophenyl)-3-(furan-2-yl)-prop-2-en-1-one (CHNO), hereafter named AFPO, against multi-resistant strains of Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli. AFPO was synthesized using the Claisen-Schmidt condensation reaction, and the molecular structure was confirmed by nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR).

Assessment of urban growth effects on green space and surface temperature in Doon Valley, Uttarakhand, India.

This study aims to examine the spatio-temporal urban expansion pattern and its impacts on green space variation as well as thermal behavior in Doon valley over the last two decades during 2000 and 2019. Landsat 5 and Landsat 8 images of February and May month of two study years 2000 and 2019 were used for the analysis. The land use change analysis revealed notable outgrowth of urbanization with 184% increase in Doon valley during 2000-2019.

Comparative evaluation of video-based on-line course versus serious game for training medical students in cardiopulmonary resuscitation: A randomised trial.

Purpose: To estimate the effect size of a serious game for cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) training in comparison with a video-based on-line course in terms of learning outcomes among medical students before simulation-based CPR using a manikin.

Methods: Participants were 45 first-year medical students randomly assigned to CPR self-training using either a video-based Apple Keynote presentation (n = 22) or a serious game developed in a 3D learning environment (n = 23) for up to 20 min. Each participant was evaluated on a written, multiple-choice test (theoretical test) and then on a scenario of cardiac arrest (practical test) before and after exposure to the self-learning methods.

Salivary gland tumors in a Brazilian population: A 20-year retrospective and multicentric study of 2292 cases.

Purpose: Neoplasms of the salivary glands comprise more than thirty subtypes of lesions with various clinical behaviors. The present study aimed to describe the incidence and main features of salivary gland tumors in Brazil.

Material And Methods: A retrospective descriptive cross-sectional study was performed (1997-2017).

CYP1B1 Gene and Phenotypic Correlation in Patients From Northeastern Brazil With Primary Congenital Glaucoma.

Purpose: To identify variants in the CYP1B1 gene in northeastern Brazilian patients with primary congenital glaucoma (PCG) and possible genotype-phenotype correlations.

Materials And Methods: This is a cross-sectional observational study of 17 nonrelated patients with PCG, performed at the Altino Ventura Foundation, Recife, Brazil, between December 2017 and February 2018. All patients underwent an examination, including gathering information from their medical records, slit-lamp examination, fundoscopy, tonography, and measuring corneal diameter and thickness.

Subgemmal neurogenous plaque (SNP) is a biphasic neural structure associated with the taste buds. Clinically, SNP usually presents as an asymptomatic, normally colored, papule located in the posterior lateral border of the tongue. Accurate diagnosis is based only on histopathological examination, which shows a superficial neurofibroma-like pattern and a neuroma-like in the deep zone.

Computer-assisted teaching of skin flap surgery: validation of a mobile platform software for medical students.

The purpose of this study was to develop and validate a multimedia software application for mobile platforms to assist in the teaching and learning process of design and construction of a skin flap. Traditional training in surgery is based on learning by doing. Initially, the use of cadavers and animal models appeared to be a valid alternative for training.
