A systematic process is described to realize double-zero-index phononic crystals with Dirac-like points experimentally. This type of crystal normally has softer inclusion material than its surroundings medium, allowing mapping into a zero-index medium under certain conditions but also making experimental implementation difficult. On the other hand, realizing phononic crystals with hard inclusions can be experimentally more feasible, but the mapping conditions cannot be directly applied to hard-inclusion crystals such that mapping is not systematically guaranteed in these cases.

Generally, the dynamic characteristics (natural frequency, damping, and mode shape) of a structure can be estimated by experimental modal analysis. Among these dynamic characteristics, mode shape requires multiple measurements of the structure at different positions, which increases the experimental cost and time. Recently, the Hilbert-Huang transform (HHT) method has been introduced to extract mode-shape information from a continuous measurement, which requires vibration measurements from one position to another position continuously with a non-contact sensor.

Generally, it is time consuming to experimentally identify the operating deflection shape or mode shape of a structure. To overcome this problem, the Hilbert Huang transform (HHT) technique has been recently proposed. This technique is used to extract the mode shape from measurements that continuously measure the vibration of a region of interest within a structure using a non-contact laser sensor.

This paper proposes a method for generating a smooth directional vibrotactile flow on a thin plate. While actuating two piezoelectric actuators spatially across the plate, temporal sweeping of the input excitation frequency from zero to the first mode of the resonance frequency can smooth the perceived directional vibrotactile flow, as compared to a vibrotactile flow generated by conventional apparent tactile movement and phantom sensation methods. In order to ascertain important factors in the excitation pattern, a user study was conducted for three factors (amplitude (constant versus modulated), frequency (constant versus swept), and ending shape (sharp versus smooth)).

There has recently been an increasing interest in the generation of a sound field that is audible in one spatial region and inaudible in an adjacent region. The method proposed here ensures the control of the amplitude and phase of multiple acoustic sources in order to maximize the acoustic energy difference between two adjacent regions while also ensuring that evenly distributed source strengths are used. The performance of the method proposed is evaluated by computer simulations and experiments with real loudspeaker arrays in the shape of a circle and a sphere.

For vibration testing, discrete types of scanning laser Doppler vibrometer (SLDV) have been developed and have proven to be very useful. For complex structures, however, SLDV takes considerable time to scan the surface of structures and require large amounts of data storage. To overcome these problems, a continuous scan was introduced as an alternative.

This paper considers authentic binaural reproduction with loudspeakers using cross-talk cancellation. A systematic time domain deconvolution method is presented using both stochastic and deterministic Wiener filters. This method has advantages in that the Wiener filter is inherently causal and stable so that no additional stabilization process, as generally required in the frequency domain methods, is needed.
