Musinous cystic neoplasia mimicking hydatid cyst in the liver: Two rare cases.

Mucinous cystic neoplasm of the liver (MCN-L) is a rare tumor which accounts for less than 5% of all liver cysts. Although they are considered to be "benign cysts" radiologically and clinically because of their slow growth, they are considered as premalignant. We present two radiologically misdiagnosed cases that operated in a short time range, in order to increase awareness for these rare tumors.

The Association of the Epidermal Growth Factor Receptor (EGFR) Immunoexpression With Prognostic Parameters in Adenocarcinoma Patients Receiving Neoadjuvant Treatment.

The epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) expression is considered to play an essential role in the pathogenesis of colorectal adenocarcinoma. This study assessed the expression and predictive/prognostic value of EGFR expression in pre-op biopsy and post-op resection specimens in patients receiving neoadjuvant radiotherapy/neoadjuvant chemoradiotherapy (NRT/NCRT). Thirty-four consecutive patients were included in this study.

Effect of intra-abdominal boric acid in the experimental adhesion model.

Background: The continuous advancement in medical and surgical techniques has led to a rise in the frequency of abdominal operations, subsequently increasing the incidence of intra-abdominal adhesions. Over 90% of laparotomies result in postoperative intra-abdominal adhesions. This study investigates the effect of a 5% boric acid solution on the development of intra-abdominal adhesions in rats, using an adhesion model.

c-MET positivity and its relationship with histopathological findings in gastric carcinomas exhibiting HER2 gene expression.

Context: Co-expressions of receptor tyrosine kinases such as c-MET and HER2 were reported in many studies. The concomitant expression is associated with more aggressive clinical course.

Aims: In this study, it was intended to investigate the correlation of the positivity of c-MET and HER2 with histopathologic findings and their impacts on prognosis.

A Retrospective Evaluation of the Epithelial Changes/Lesions and Neoplasms of the Gallbladder in Turkey and a Review of the Existing Sampling Methods: A Multicentre Study.

Objective: As there is continuing disagreement among the observers on the differential diagnosis between the epithelial changes/lesions and neoplasms of the gallbladder, this multicentre study was planned in order to assess the rate of the epithelial gallbladder lesions in Turkey and to propose microscopy and macroscopy protocols.

Material And Method: With the participation of 22 institutions around Turkey that were included in the Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary Study Group, 89,324 cholecystectomy specimens sampled from 2003 to 2016 were retrospectively evaluated. The numbers of adenocarcinomas, dysplasias, intracholecystic neoplasms/adenomas, intestinal metaplasias and reactive atypia were identified with the review of pathology reports and the regional and countrywide incidence rates were presented in percentages.

Labeling studies were performed by changing the selected parameters one by one, and optimum labeling conditions were determined. After observing the conditions for maximum labeling efficiency and stability, lyophilized freeze dry kits were prepared accordingly.

Clarithromycin resistance and 23S rRNA gene point mutations of Helicobacter pylori infection in children.

This study aims to evaluate Helicobacter pylori with clarithromycin resistant genotypes in Manisa region, Turkey. Two hundred patients, who received diagnosis of Helicobacter pylori infection histopathologically, were included. The sex, age and endoscopy indications of the patients were recorded.

Inflammatory myofibroblastic tumor of the colon with an unusual presentation of intestinal intussusception.

Inflammatory myfibroblastic tumor (IMT), also known as inflammatory pseudotumor is unusual, benign solid tumor. This tumor is commonly reported in the lungs but can be present in extrapulmonary sites as well. We present the case of a 7-year-old girl with IMT in an unusual location.

Does Helicobacter pylori treatment improve the symptoms of globus hystericus?

Background/aims: Globus hystericus is a feeling of tension in the throat, irrelevant of swallowing, persisting for at least 12 weeks. Since the cause of globus hystericus is not fully described, the treatment is controversial. We aimed in this study to determine the symptoms of gastroesophageal reflux disease, upper gastrointestinal endoscopic findings, prevalence of Helicobacter pylori,and post-treatment symptoms (symptoms of gastroesophageal reflux and/or Helicobacter pylori) in patients with a diagnosis of globus hystericus.

The synchronous primary carcinomas of the rectum and prostate.

The diagnosis of synchronous prostatic and rectal carcinomas is uncommon. To make a correct diagnosis, biopsies of both sites are mandatory. Pathological slides should be compared and immunohistochemical staining should be taken into consideration.

Iron deficiency anemia (IDA) is frequent in childhood. Inadequate nutrition and gastrointestinal malabsorption are the frequent causes of IDA in children. But reduced iron absorption and insidious blood loss from the gastrointestinal tract has been identified as the most frequent causes of IDA in older children and adolescents.

Immunohistochemical analysis of Ki-67, p53 and Bcl-2 expression related to histological features in gastroesophageal reflux disease.

Background/aims: The endoscopic and histologic findings of gastroesophageal reflux disease are usually indistinct. The current study was designed to define accurately the histology in gastroesophageal reflux disease and to develop a hypothesis that reflux produces immunohistochemical changes.

Methods: The study was based on the examination of endoscopic esophageal biopsy specimens obtained from 20 patients with evidence of reflux with 24-hour pH-meter monitoring and from 20 control subjects without clinical or endoscopic reflux.

The role of pRB, p16 and cyclin D1 in colonic carcinogenesis.

Background/aims: This study is aimed to investigate abnormal expression of the Rb protein (pRb), p16(INK4a) (p16) and cyclin D1 in colorectal adenomas and adenocarcinomas and to assess the possible alterations in Rb pathway in colorectal carcinogenesis.

Methodology: 44 cases of colorectal adenoma and 44 cases of colorectal adenocarcinoma were examined histopathologically and immunohistochemically using monoclonal antibodies to identify abnormalities of pRb, p16, and cyclin D1 expression. Staining degree of above-mentioned markers was assessed by using a semi-quantitative method in all cases in order to determine any staining differences.

The effect of tadalafil on anastomotic healing in ischemic small intestine in rats.

Purpose: To investigate the effect of tadalafil on anastomotic healing in an ischemic small intestine.

Methods: Standardized transection and anastomosis in the small intestine were performed in 48 male Sprague-Dawley rats divided into four equal groups (n = 12): group 1, normal anastomosis; group 2, ischemic anastomosis; group 3, normal anastomosis+tadalafil treatment; group 4, ischemic anastomosis+tadalafil treatment. Ischemia was established by ligating 2 cm of mesentery on either side of the anastomosis.

We report a 65-year-old patient with a gastric polyp of 2.5 cm in diameter located at the cardia on upper gastrointestinal (GI) endoscopy. Pathological examination of the excised polyp showed intramucosal carcinoma.
