SmartFlare technology allows detection of mRNA in single living cells. We studied the possibility of using SmartFlare nanoprobes for detection of small subsets of CD4 lymphocytes. Objectives: The pattern of angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) expression in dendritic cells (DC) and macrophages derived from normal monocytes vs that in DC derived from acute myeloid leukemia blasts was investigated.

Materials And Methods: ACE expression was quantified by flow cytometry using a set of monoclonal antibodies (mAbs) directed against five different epitopes on the ACE molecule and by enzyme activity measurement.

Results: The binding pattern of a set of anti-ACE mAbs to the surface of blood cells and their progeny, as revealed by FACS, showed lineage and epitope specificity.

The influence of a diet supplemented with n-3 PUFA on the immune status of children with atopic dermatitis and asthma was investigated. The decreased ventricular fibrillation threshold (VFT) in the first 5 days of restriction results from stress-induced changes in myocardial autonomic innervation, as shown by elevated cardiac content of cAMP and lowered levels of cGMP, and a rise in the plasma concentrations of corticosterone and deoxycorticosterone. Ultimately, these changes enhance cardiomyocyte membranous permeability of calcium ions and, hence, lower VFT. Impaired cardiac electric stability in the late inactivity period (50 days) is also associated with the enhanced permeability of cardiomyocyte membranes; however, the nature of this phenomenon remains unclear and calls for further studies.
