Background: Haemorrhage remains the leading cause of preventable mortality following trauma, often aggravated by the acidosis, hypothermia and coagulopathy-the lethal triad of trauma. However, the impact of trauma-induced hypocalcemia on the haemorrhage remains unclear. It is intuitive to consider perturbations of ionised calcium early during trauma resuscitation in acutely injured patients given its pathophysiological significance for an improved outcome.

This study explores dominant themes in global reproductive health discussions on Reddit over a 12-month period (January 2021 to December 2021). We collected and analyzed 50,000 posts and 100,000 comments from key subreddits, including "r/ReproductiveHealth" and "r/Parenting," using Python libraries like PRAW and BeautifulSoup for efficient data collection and preprocessing. Employing tools such as Latent Dirichlet Allocation (LDA) for topic modeling and VADER for sentiment analysis, we identified five major themes: Family Planning and Contraception, Pregnancy and Childbirth, Sexual Education and Awareness, Misinformation and Myths, and Support and Emotional Well-being.

All patients with known haematological disease admitted with COVID-19-positive status from April to August 2020 in the COVID-19 facility of a tertiary care centre in north India, were included. Their medical records were analyzed for outcome and mortality risk factors.

Vegetable wastes as a bio-additive for low-salt preservation of raw goat skin: An attempt to reduce salinity in leather manufacture.

Preservation or curing of hides/skins is performed as the primary step of leather processing to conserve them from putrefaction. Normally preservation is carried out using common salt (NaCl), which is discharged in the soak liquor contributing to ~ 70%, of total dissolved solids (TDS) load of entire leather manufacturing. In an attempt to reduce the TDS and chlorides, phyto-based preservation using garlic peel (Allium sativum) and white onion peel (Allium cepa) was carried out.

The Relationship Between Learning Needs and Fatalism Tendency in Women Who Have a Relative with Breast Cancer.

The aim of this study was to determine the information-support needs and level of meeting these needs, the tendency of fatalism trend, and the relationship between these parameters in women having a relative with breast cancer. The research was carried out with 400 women who were the primary relatives of patients treated within oncology units. Participants completed an information form, the information support needs questionnaire and the fatalism tendency scale.

High-throughput miRNA deep sequencing in response to drought stress in sugarcane.

Unlabelled: Drought is a major factor which reduces cane growth and productivity. In the present study, we sequenced drought susceptible (V1) and drought tolerant (V2) sugarcane varieties using high-throughput miRNA deep sequencing method to study the regulation of gene expression by miRNAs during drought stress in sugarcane. A total of 1224 conserved miRNAs which belong to 89 miRNA families were identified and 38% of the differentially regulated miRNAs were common for both varieties.

Lichen Parmelia sulcata mediated synthesis of gold nanoparticles: an eco-friendly tool against Anopheles stephensi and Aedes aegypti.

The gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) were synthesized using the lichen Parmelia sulcata extract (PSE) and characterized. The peaks of ultraviolet spectrophotometer and Fourier transmission infrared confirmed the formation of nanoparticles and the bioactive compounds of the lichen being responsible for reducing and capping of the particles. The discharge of untreated soak liquor from tannery industry causes severe environmental pollution. This study is characterizing the soak liquor as a substrate in the microbial fuel cell (MFC) for remediation along with electricity generation. The dual chamber MFC was constructed and operated.

Uric Acid: The Lower the Better?

Background: Uric acid (UA) is still considered a risk factor, or even a causative agent, for chronic kidney disease (CKD); however, a few, important, clinical questions remain unanswered; in particular: when and whether urate-lowering therapy should be commenced in subjects with asymptomatic hyperuricemia and/or monosodium urate crystals deposition? What is the most appropriate UA target to be achieved and how long does it need to be maintained? How does treatment need be adjusted in patients with chronic kidney disease?

Summary: The observational and intervention studies available do not fully answer such questions, and a treatment to target trial is required. We provide here some preliminary opinion on how such a trial might be designed. A final unresolved issue relates to the possible (if any) dangers of overtreatment of hyperuricemia, leading to "hypouricemia," which may occur more frequently with newer, more potent, drugs.

A randomized placebo-controlled trial of progesterone with or without hypothermia in patients with acute severe traumatic brain injury.

Objective: Among newer neuroprotectant modalities, hypothermia and progesterone have shown a beneficial role in preliminary studies enrolling patients with severe traumatic brain injury (sTBI). The primary objective of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of progesterone with or without prophylactic hypothermia in acute sTBI patients.
