Article Synopsis
  • Necrotizing fasciitis (NF) is a serious infection that needs quick diagnosis and treatment; the LRINEC score helps assess patient risk levels early on.
  • A study in Chennai involving 112 NF patients found that 51.8% were at low risk, with significant links between higher LRINEC scores and worsening lab results, diabetes, and vascular disease.
  • With proper treatment, 83.9% of patients improved with conservative methods, while complications like delayed healing occurred in some cases, highlighting the importance of the LRINEC score in clinical decision-making.

Extraneural perineuriomas are rare, benign soft tissue tumors arising from perineurial cells, which form the protective lining of peripheral nerves. These tumors are infrequently encountered in the foot, posing diagnostic challenges due to their rarity and non-specific clinical presentation. Here, we describe the case of a 45-year-old woman, who had a swelling over the right foot dorsum for four years for which an excision biopsy was done.

A lumbar hernia is characterized by the protrusion of intra-abdominal contents through a defect in the muscles of the lumbar region. They can be classified as primary or secondary based on their etiology. We present a case of a 65-year-old male who had swelling in the right flank region for nearly 20 years and experienced sudden onset pain over the last 20 days.

Mesothelial cysts are uncommon benign lesions formed by mesothelial cells that line the serosal surfaces of many organs. It is commonly found in the peritoneum and less commonly in the pleura; when found in the spermatic cord, they are exceedingly rare. These cysts usually appear as painless lumps in the inguinal or scrotal area and often remain asymptomatic.

The incidence of mixed thyroid carcinoma of poorly differentiated thyroid carcinoma (PDTC) and papillary carcinoma thyroid is very unusual. PDTC exhibits a high degree of dedifferentiation and histopathological confirmation is done based on Turin's criteria. This type of carcinoma has a poor prognosis and the survival rates at five and ten years post-diagnosis are significantly lower compared to well-differentiated thyroid carcinomas.

Background: Intravenous dexmedetomidine is one of the commonly preferred techniques for sedation during any regional procedure. However, only a very few studies compared the impact of different bolus doses during spinal anesthesia, and none for our geographical area.

Materials And Methods: A total of 60 patients were allocated into either of the three groups (group I, II, III) to receive intravenous dexmedetomidine 0.

Soft tissue sarcomas are group of malignant tumours arising from extra skeletal mesenchymal tissue. Presenting a patient with swelling over the posterior aspect of left arm for 6 months, gradually increasing in size for four months and rapidly increasing in size for last 2 months and not associated with pain. Peripheral pulses felt.

Objectives: Post systolic shortening (PSS) had been shown to be sensitive in detecting ischemia on stress echocardiography. This work aims to study the diagnostic potential of resting PSS and post systolic index (PSI) in patients with suspected unstable angina (UA).

Methods: Total of 159 participants with suspected UA without any wall motion abnormalities were recruited.

Background: Measuring pulmonary artery pressures is a routine index in Doppler echocardiography to diagnose, risk stratify, and prognosticate patients with pulmonary hypertension (PH). There are numerous methods in use to measure it in routine clinical practice.

Objective: The objective of this study was to assess the correlation between the commonly used Doppler-derived parameters such as tricuspid regurgitation (TR)-derived systolic pulmonary artery pressure (SPAP), pulmonary regurgitation (PR)-derived mean pulmonary artery pressure (MPAP), and right ventricular outflow tract acceleration time (RVOT AcT) with right heart catheterization (RHC) data which are the gold standard.

Aim: The aim of this study was to evaluate the antifungal efficacy of a novel endodontic irrigant octenidine against conventional irrigants sodium hypochlorite and EDTA on growth in the young and old population by calculating the number of colonies formed and by qualitative identification of dead/viable fungi by Confocal laser scanning microscopy (CLSM) method.

Materials And Methods: The total number of samples used in the study was eighty samples after decoronation of the crown portion the middle third of root canal. Each group was subdivided into four subgroups with various irrigation protocols: (A) 17% EDTA + 5.

Bronchogenic carcinoma, the commonest lung tumor occurs more frequently in the elderly with typical symptoms of cough, haemoptysis, weight loss, dyspnoea or chest pain. These symptoms mimic common respiratory infections in en-demic areas like pulmonary tuberculosis. Also, metastasis at presentation itself is common, the favoured sites being liver, contra-lateral lungs, bones, brain, etc.

Aim: This study was designed to compare the antimicrobial effect of toothpastes containing probiotics and neem on in 18-30-year-old patients in Melmaruvathur population.

Materials And Methods: The study consisted of 60 patients who were randomly divided into two groups of 30 each. Group I received probiotic-based toothpaste (PerioBiotic), whereas Group II received neem-based toothpaste (Babool) as a preventive measure protocols to control the incidence and prevalence of dental caries.

The objective of the present study was to investigate the effect of partially hydrolyzed ginsenoside on the physicochemical properties and in vitro release of curcumin from phospholipid-based nanostructured lipid carrier (NLC). NLC formulas modified with partially hydrolyzed ginsenoside (NLC-PG) were prepared with different amounts of ginsenoside using the conventional hot-melt method. The average particle size of curcumin-loaded NLC-PG ranged from 150 to 200 nm, and polydispersity index was in the range of 0.

Context: Trismus is one of the common late side effects of radiotherapy (RT) of head and neck cancers. It occurs in about 30% of patients treated by telecobalt. It, in turn, leads to significant morbidity, including malnutrition, difficulty in speaking, and compromised oral hygiene with severe psychosocial, and economic impacts.

Phosphoenolpyruvate carboxykinase (PEPCK) is a key gluconeogenic enzyme found in many tissues throughout the body including brain. In the present study, we have investigated the effect of bacterial lipopolysaccharide (LPS) on PEPCK and its role in neuronal steroidogenesis. Adult female albino rats were administered LPS (5mg/kg body weight) to induce acute inflammation.
