Lack of timely prognosis of cardiovascular condition (CVC) is resulting in increased mortality across the globe. Currently, available techniques are confined to medical facilities and need the intervention of specialists. Frequently, this impedes timely treatment, driven by socioeconomic factors.

We describe a rare case of an eleven-year-old child with undiagnosed underlying Crohn's disease who contracted Vibrio pelagius. Though the exact source remained undetermined, the child may have acquired it through infected sea food. Automated system failed to exactly identify the isolated organism; we used detailed biochemical tests for identification.

Objectives: This study aimed to explore the effect of antiseizure medications (ASM) on thyroid function in children with epilepsy.

Methods: A prospective study involving children between 6 months and 12 years of age with new-onset seizures who took ASM within 2 months was conducted in the Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER), Puducherry, India, between August 2019 to March 2022. Thyroid function tests-free T3, free T4 and thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH)-were done at baseline and after completing 3 months by competitive immunoassay using direct chemiluminescent technology.

Article Synopsis
  • A fetus at 30 weeks gestation with severe complications due to a large vein of Galen malformation (VOGM) was treated with glue embolization after being referred for pregnancy termination.
  • The procedure successfully corrected blood flow issues and showed improvements in heart size and fetal brain structure, leading to a stable delivery.
  • Despite initial success, the newborn faced severe health challenges and ultimately passed away, highlighting the complexities and risks involved in prenatal interventions for VOGM.

Developing an electronic skin (e-skin) is becoming popular due to its capability to mimic human skin's ability to detect various stimuli. Mostly, such skins are tactile-based sensors. However, the exploration of nontactile-based sensing capability in the e-skin is still in a nascent stage.

Background And Aim: Precancer biomarkers help in early detection and management of oral potentially malignant disorders (OPMDs). Interleukin-1β (IL-1β), a biomarker, is known to be altered in oral submucous fibrosis (OSMF) and oral leukoplakia (OL). Therefore, we evaluated and compared the serum and salivary IL-1β levels in patients with OSMF/oral leukoplakia and in gender- and age-matched healthy individuals.

Objectives: To compare high-flow nasal cannula (HFNC) versus nasal prong bubble continuous positive airway pressure (b-CPAP) in children with moderate to severe acute bronchiolitis.

Design: A randomized controlled trial was carried out from August 2019 to February 2022. (Clinical Trials Registry of India number CTRI/2019/07/020402).

This study aimed to validate a bespoke 3D-printed phantom for use in quality assurance (QA) of a 6 degrees-of-freedom (6DoF) treatment couch. A novel phantom design comprising a main body with internal cube structures, was fabricated at five centres using Polylactic Acid (PLA) material, with an additional phantom produced incorporating a PLA-stone hybrid material. Correctional setup shifts were determined using image registration by 3D-3D matching of high HU cube structures between obtained cone-beam computer tomography (CBCT) images to reference CTs, containing cubes with fabricated rotational offsets of 3.

Purpose: It is important to comprehend how the molecular mechanisms shift when gastric cancer in its early stages (GC). We employed integrative bioinformatics approaches to locate various biological signalling pathways and molecular fingerprints to comprehend the pathophysiology of the GC. To facilitate the discovery of their possible biomarkers, a rapid diagnostic may be made, which leads to an improved diagnosis and improves the patient's prognosis.

Developing sensors for monitoring physiological parameters such as temperature and strain for point of care (POC) diagnostics is critical for better care of the patients. Various commercial sensors are available to get the job done; however, challenges like the structural rigidity of such sensors confine their usage. As an alternative, flexible sensors have been looked upon recently.

Tuberculosis-associated haemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis (HLH) is rare in paediatrics and can be fatal if not recognised and treated on time. A 3-month-old infant with tuberculosis and HLH is described. He was successfully treated with anti-tuberculous therapy (ATT) which comprised isoniazid, rifampicin, pyrazinamide, ethambutol, streptomycin and dexamethasone (10 mg/m/day).

Developing a printed elastomeric wearable sensor with good conformity and proper adhesion to skin, coupled with the capability of monitoring various physiological parameters, is very crucial for the development of point-of-care sensing devices with high precision and sensitivity. While there have been previous reports on the fabrication of elastomeric multifunctional sensors, research on the printable elastomeric multifunctional adhesive sensor is not very well explored. Herein, we report the development of a stencil printable multifunctional adhesive sensor fabricated in a solvent-free condition, which demonstrated the capability of having good contact with skin and its ability to function as a temperature and strain sensor.

Kawasaki disease after respiratory viral infections is often observed but following Human Metapneumovirus infection (HMPV) is uncommon. Pulmonary presentation of Kawasaki disease without its classical features, though uncommon, can present as bronchopneumonia refractory to routine supportive care and antibiotics treatment. Lung collapse and pneumothorax as a pulmonary presentation of atypical Kawasaki disease are described very infrequently.

Objective: To determine the threshold of the inotropic score (IS) and vasoactive-inotropic score (VIS) for predicting mortality in pediatric septic shock.

Method: This retrospective cohort study included children aged 1 mo to 13 y with septic shock, requiring vasoactive medication. The area under curve receiver operating characteristic (AUROC) was calculated using mean IS and mean VIS to predict PICU mortality, and Youden index cut points were generated.

Objective: To study the association of cumulative fluid balance and clinical outcomes in a pediatric intensive care unit (PICU) practicing restrictive fluid protocol.

Methods: In this prospective cohort study, children aged less than 13 y admitted for more than 48 h were screened. Children with unstable hemodynamics throughout the stay were excluded.

Objective: To study the serum sodium level and clinical outcome in pediatric nontraumatic coma.

Methods: A prospective cohort study was conducted in a tertiary care pediatric intensive care unit (PICU) from September 2015 to June 2016. Children aged < 13 y with nontraumatic coma [modified-Glasgow Coma Scale (m-GCS) score ≤ 8 or fall of ≥ 3 from baseline within 24 h of admission] were included.

Pyridoxine-dependent epilepsy (PDE) (OMIM 266100) is an autosomal recessive disorder of lysine metabolism secondary to antiquitin deficiency. The prototypical presentation is intractable neonatal seizures that do not respond to conventional antiseizure medication but are well controlled by pyridoxine supplementation. Atypical forms account for one-third of the PDE spectrum and may escape early diagnosis.

Aim: The objective of this prospective non-randomized study was to establish the role of biodegradable sub-acromial spacer (InSpace™) insertion in the management of patients with massive irreparable rotator cuff tear by reporting beneficial effects on the pain relief and functional outcomes in these patients.

Methods: This is a prospective non-randomized study of patients treated for irreparable cuff tears during a period between January 2014 and November 2016.14 patients with symptomatic massive irreparable rotator cuff tears were managed with arthroscopic debridement and implantation of a biodegradable subacromial spacer and were followed up for at least one year (8-16 m).

The aim of this study was to assess and calculate the number of follow-ups (FUs), relative cost, demographics, and overall patient satisfaction (as expressed in pain and function) after shoulder replacement surgery. Subjects included 54 patients (34 female, 20 male) who underwent reverse shoulder arthroplasty between 2011 and 2013 at East Surrey Hospital, United Kingdom. Patients were examined during a period of 3 yr and then 6-12 mo after final discharge.
