There is debate within the literature as to whether emotion dysregulation (ED) in Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) reflects deviant attentional mechanisms or atypical perceptual emotion processing. Previous reviews have reliably examined the nature of facial, but not vocal, emotion recognition accuracy in ADHD. The present meta-analysis quantified vocal emotion recognition (VER) accuracy scores in ADHD and controls using robust variance estimation, gathered from 21 published and unpublished papers.

Organisms of the genus Acanthamoeba are environmentally ubiquitous and colonizers of the oral mucosa in humans. While largely asymptomatic in healthy persons, Acanthamoeba infection can cause disseminated disease with poor prognosis in immunosuppressed populations. Here we report a unique case of cutaneous amoebiasis associated with continuous positive airway pressure use in an immunosuppressed patient.

Klinefelter's syndrome is characterized by hypogonadism and infertility and commonly has an XXY karyotype. Within the population of men with this disorder, there is an increased incidence of venous thromboembolic disease. Although the precise mechanisms underlying this prothrombotic state have not been elucidated, it is thought that the increased incidence of thromboembolism is associated with a hypofibrinolytic state secondary to androgen deficiency.

Primitive neuroectodermal tumors (PNETs) are small, round-cell tumors of neural crest origin classically found in the central nervous system (CNS) but more recently characterized in the periphery. Peripherally located PNETs (pPNETs) are members of the Ewing's sarcoma family of tumors (EFTs). Renal localization of pPNETs is very rare, is found in young adults, and is characterized by an aggressive clinical course and poor prognosis.

Tumor of the pancreas allograft is extremely rare. We report a case of an occult donor malignant undifferentiated tumor arising in a pancreas allograft. A 42-year-old female with Type 1 diabetes received a macroscopically normal pancreas allograft.

Kaposi's sarcoma-associated herpesvirus (KSHV) latently infects tumor cells in patients with Kaposi's sarcoma and primary effusion lymphoma (PEL). The purpose of this study was to determine whether histone deacetylase inhibitors (HDAI) could induce apoptosis, with minimal viral replication, in cells latently infected with KSHV. Four HDAI (depsipeptide, suberoylanilide hydroxamic acid, MS-275, and trichostatin A) were studied in two PEL B cell lines (BCBL-1, BC-3).

T-cell cultures from renal biopsies taken during acute rejection and pretransplant mixed lymphocyte cultures (MLC) were established from five renal transplant patients.

Clinical outcome of cadaveric renal allografts contaminated before transplantation.

This analysis was performed to define the incidence of pretransplant microbial contamination of donor kidneys, and to assess the resultant morbidity including infections requiring therapy, and graft loss. Case records of all 638 renal allograft recipients patients transplanted in our centre during the period June 1990 to October 2000 were studied. All the recipients were given a single dose of intravenous antibiotics at the time of induction of anaesthesia.

Objectives: To produce a guidelines text, on behalf of the European Association of Urology, providing insights in the issues surrounding renal transplantation.

Method: A group of international experts in renal transplantation carried out a non-structured literature review on available medical databases and urological literature.

Result: A guideline text is presented providing an overview of key issues involved in the patients' management such as assessment of donors, pre-transplant evaluation, techniques, management, post-transplant care, etc.

Objections to commerce in organs has not stopped the spread of such practice around the world. In most countries the gap between supply and demand for organs continues to increase. Kidneys from living donors are considered a valuable addition to the donor pool, and in a more acquisitive world, donor incentives are becoming thinkable, even acceptable.

Utility of serial Doppler ultrasound scans for the diagnosis of acute rejection in renal allografts.
